I just purchased a new speedo cable, and the coupling that goes on the tranny leaks where it meets crimped around the wire housing. It didnt come with a rubber washer to seal itand there was nothing of that nature onthe tranny. Is it that I got a bad cable?

So you have a leak? Their are seals in the housing where the cable nut threads on to. You must remove the housing to replace them, one seal is inside and seals the shaft of the driven gear is easy to change just observe the way the old seal lip is facing should be facing the oil side of the housing. The other is simply an o- ring seals the housing to the tail stock on the trans. If the shaft seal leaks oil will work its way into the speedo cable and leak externally, hope this helps check for seals at a local trans shop. I agree with Gary, it sounds like just the O ring.
