Hey guys - will someone please help me identify this transmission? It's currently in a 1968 Chevy truck bolted to a 350.
Thanks!

I will guess its a Spicer or New Process 4 speed with right or left PTO access. Should be a silver metal tag on it somewhere. Not for first generation cars.

Hey, this is a Camaro site. Anything to do with Camaro's is appreciated or please use a different forum. Thanks

It's a Muncie SM465 (the 'SM' stands for syncro-mesh)
It's a 4-speed with "Granny" low with a 6.55:1 ratio - the other 3 ratios are 3.58:1(2nd), 1.51:1(3rd) and 1.0:1(4th).
That's a 2WD unit with short 35 spline output.
The 4X4 units are 10 spline output up to '78 and 32 spline after that with a longer output shaft.
They require a truck bellhousing with the large input bore v.s. the smaller 4 11/16" car type bellhousing.
They make a great near-bulletproof tranny for those 4X4 Camaro conversions (see, I turned it into a Camaro relevant post :D )
ps: it looks like you may have a slight oil leak somewhere

Thank you for your post Vintage 68! It does indeed have a granny low. Where did you find that info?? I have looked everywhere! I am in the process of fixing that oil leak.
Thanks

No problem - there's quite a few folks on here who's expertise goes WAY beyond First Gen F-bodys
I torn them apart for a living for many years and own one of them in a 77 4X4, so I keep some factory service info around for it.
Here's some other links I use;
* a site sorta like this for trucks - http://67-72chevytrucks.com/vboard/index.php
*Gear vendors site has some info on the ratios of different GM manual units - http://www.gearvendors.com/cg2wdt.html
*Chuck's Chevy Truck Pages has some good info - http://www.chuckschevytruckpages.com/models.html
*American Classic truck partsw has some decode links - http://www.americanclassic.com/paint.htm
There's also driveline and engine info in the LMC truck parts catalogs - http://www.lmctruck.com/truck_catalog_page.htm
I seem to get a new one every couple months ...

No Problem Cruise Master. If I would have known of a more appropriate forum I probably would have posted there. I am just familiar with this forum and I know there are pros here.
Thanks again guys!
