I got an estimate for $250 to rechrome (tripple plated?) my front and rear bumpers along with my door handles. Does this sound about right?

I am not sure if the cost is reasonable but you can buy new from Classic, as well as others, for about 85 bucks each. E-bay also has them. I bought mine from Classic and they look identical to the originals, minus the rust and dents.

I agree, I have a re-chromed front bumper and it looks great. No problems with the fit and cheaper and simpler than running back and forth to a chrome shop. The new ones will get delivered right to your door! Sell your old bumpers on e-bay and increase your savings. Just my .02

Story on the street is that the repops from the resto houses start to loose their luster after a couple of years. I sent my repop rear bumper back and had my original rechromed. Paid $120. Also paid $130 to get my door handles rechromed at a different shop. $250 for two bumpers and two door handles sounds like a good deal.

I have found that a custom chrome house will typically do a better job than the run-of-the-mill body shop bumper re-plater. Quality over quanity so to speak and a nickle base.

$250.00 sounds about right to me. I always ask the chromer before the work begins: "if I'm not happy with the results, will you do it again?"

No doubt. Rechrome the originals. Better fit and quality. The price sounds fair also.

Bumpers are usualy no problem to get re-chromed. Pot metal castings are another story. The handles can be purchased repro for much less than a quality pot metal replate job but the repro works best for show only cars as the chrome on those is just not the same level of quality as boutique chrome shops. I will try repro handles when the car comes back from the paint shop and replace them with better quality original pieces if they do not hold up well over time.

My bumpers and door handles aren't that bad and don't really have any major pittings. I've been referred to this establishment by several body shops that say they do a great job. When I get my bumpers back I'll let you guys know how they turned out. Thanks for the help.

Thats a great price compared to what I have to pay here. $250 per bumper. Thats why I bought NOS when they were $200 each.

I just got my bumpers w/bumperettes and door handles back today from JT Classic Chrome (I hope its not a problem that I posted their name)and they look awesome. I can't wait to get my car back from the body shop and put them on. I am very happy with the work they've done and I will definitely use them again in the future.

Shadow;
Are you talking about JT's in La Puente? If so I had them do a bit of plating for me when I was in the Glendale area - they were good!

Looked up the phone # in Rolodex it's (626) 369-5994 if it's the same place.

I just bought rechromed GM bumpers and deluxe rear guards from the Bumper Boyz in LA. The chrome looks good but the rear one wasn't straight. I failed to open and inspect it(
I did the front) within 48 hours so I had to pay the return freight. Got the replacement today and it fit! WOO HOO. Looks good. $155 no core $140 with.

I agree the price was fair. I bought 2 repos for $90 apiece. Having the originals done for $100 apiece is great. I you figure $25 a piece for the handles that's $250.
