View Full Version : silver trim paint for dash
smith69z Dec 14th, 07, 05:08 AM Has anyone tried to simulate the silver edging around the dash? I have to install my old clock bezel but the chrome is a little wore. Or better yet does any one repro these? Not in Ground up or Rick's catalog.
Thanks
drdave69 Dec 14th, 07, 05:18 AM I found one on Ricks website. Is this what you are looking for?

jetdoc Dec 14th, 07, 05:53 AM I just painted my dash, and if yours is like mine there was several places that needed a touchup...so I painted it with the satin Krylon FUSION paint and outllined the rest with a Liquid Foil pen that I got from CI. It was worth the 50.00 buck....Looks great, problem is you only use a little, so if you have other people that need it you can split the cost...........Mark
drdave69 Dec 14th, 07, 06:19 AM What is CI? Can you get that pen at any hobby shop?

CI=Classic Industries.
smith69z Dec 14th, 07, 08:52 AM Thanks Dave, For some reason I missed that in my paper catalog.
zdld17 Dec 14th, 07, 08:52 AM I used Testors model silver paint and a very small brush. A drink or two for a steady hand may help.

Yes, I got mine from one of those 'female' hobby shops here in town = Michaels.
I think it was about 4 bucks. You can get fine, medium, or broad tip. They work great!
Unreal Dec 14th, 07, 11:54 AM I used Pewter colored acrilic paint from Michaels. Put it on with a real thin brush that probably only had 20 bristles. sanded with 2500 wet between paints to make is real smooth.
Looked pretty good.....But I wanted perfect, so I ended up removing it all and having Henry Estheimer in Columbus put heat set chrome strips on it. He did the words and everything, and did a great job.

The roller works much better than a brush or paint pen.
Steptoe Dec 16th, 07, 11:53 AM I wiped the edge surfaces with a damp rage and thinners to remove any dirt polish etc
Used the 'chrome' modelers paint that comes in an aerosol and a cotton bud
Spray a little into the aresol can cap, dip the cotton bud in and lightly wipe.
Did it dash/steering wheel etc about 20 yrs back..lasted ok, but didnt wipe with thiners/rag very well or corectly
When wipng with thinneres move in one direction only and refresh the part of the rag constantly...wiping back and forth one tends to spread any silcones/polish back on the surface...
