Hi all,
I decided yesterday to pull out my instrument panel and carpeting, kick panels, etc, and actuaaly finish work I had started there, insulation and such. I found a lot of heavy surface rust under the dash and plan to use Rust Bullet there. Used it on my new floor panels and liked it. Also wiring under the dash is a mess, plan to clean that all up and install underdash courtesy lights, and one door switch doesn't have any wiring to it, need the harness I guess but can't find just that.
I am installing a new instrument panel that I have had for a year now, am changing out the little clips and such, and wondering what to do as far as gauges. My Fuel and speedo gauges are in great shape. I took out the console gauges long go, and replaced them with better gauges that actually tell me something, but might put back the original console gauges. If I do, there is a fuel gauge in the console, and also the one in the instrument panel. Have considered taking out the instrument fuel gauge and buying a tach, but not sure which I would want. SS, Z-28 or whatever. My car is a true RS. From the factory, I assume that on a base RS, a person could have ordered a tach also, if so which one would they have gotten when the car wasn't an SS or Z? What are your opinions on the whole issue of fuel gauge or tach, etc. Hope all this wasn't too confusing. Thanks
RJ

Let me shorten my question....On an original 69 RS, could a buyer order a tachometer instead of the instrument panel fuel gauge, and if so which tach would they get since it was not an SS or Z-28? Thanks

which tach only depends on the redline.

There were 2 instrumentation options. Standard was a speedo and fuel in the big pods, center blank.

Option one was tach and speedo in the big pods, fuel gauge in center.

Option 2 was tach and speedo, blank center, and 4 gauges in the console.

Hi Jim,
Thanks for the reply, but I understand about the placement pretty well. You mention the different redlines. I'm also familiar with that from looking at the various tachs for SS and Z's in the parts catalogs. What I don't see is what the redline would be and therefore which tach would have been installed if a person ordered the tach on an RS with the 255 horse motor, non SS or non Z-28. Or was the tach just not available on that motor. I had thought most every option was available on base camaros. Hope you understand what I'm getting at here Jim.
Thanks

RJ,

Maybe go to camaros.org and check out all the options on the 69 camaro. They should be able to tell you what tach came with a 255hp motor. And yes they did sell them with the tach option with the console guages.
