What is the tar-foam wrapped material holding the expansion valve to the condensor tube just before the POA valve? It is black, tar-like foam/clay material. How do I get some new material for my a/c box rebuild?

What is the tar-foam wrapped material holding the expansion valve to the condensor tube just before the POA valve? It is black, tar-like foam/clay material. How do I get some new material for my a/c box rebuild?

i received some from an a/c supply company out of the hemmings book..the place was in fla........they rebuilt my evaporator and expansion valve and gave me some......

It is simply refrigeration tape and you can get it at any auto parts store that carries ac parts. They still use it in most installations.

We call that stuff DUM-DUM.
Its name is Prestite Tape.

I dont know if you guys have Carquest autoparts in California but when I was doing my Vintage air install they had some in the package but it wasnt enough. When I took my A/C lines down to have them crimped I took a piece with me and asked if he had "this stuff" cause I didnt know what it was called either.Anyway...this guy brought out a huge roll of the stuff about 8" in diameter...more than I would use in a lifetime...I thought,but I have found it to be really handy on alot of places to form a good seal around wierd shaped stuff,anyway they carry it if this helps
