HI,
My 69 coupe has kick panels that EACH have two cables controlling the astrovent duct shutoff and the lower kick panel duct if I make myself clear. The cable that controls the upper astro vent duct is missing from each side. I don't seem to see these for sale anywhere. Can somebody help me out. Thanks. I also wondered if the Astro vent seal kit that Rick's sells has the seal that goes on that little flapper valve inside the duct. Now that I've confused everyone including myself, help me out if you can

RJ - The vent cables are not sold separately that I have ever seen. The new repro kicks have the cables installed, but the panels may or may not fit your car, depending whether you have the two piece panels or one piece. I had to buy a beat up pair of green kicks just to get the two upper cables for my 69, but you can usually find them on ebay or at swap meets pretty cheap.

On the seals, if your talking about Rick's IN-27, it comes with the seals for the flappers. Then you just have to get the buggers out...

I replaced the upper cales with choke cables from the Help! line of parts. I got that tip on TC about 5 years ago. The housing is all you need, trimmed to length. It will go back in the same hole with the furnished jam nut. Slide the original cable with black handle on the end back in the new housing. Buy them as Eric says if you need them. You are in business.

Most of the originals I have seen have brittle and rotted housings.

Thanks guys for the great info. Unfortunately, when i bought my car the top cables on each side were totally missing, just the bottom ones are there. I will try e-bay. I have the two piece kick panels by the way. Thanks again

FireWheel Classics has them. Part #KP155C.

Thanks for that info. I went to the website, but I notice the handles on the cables look different than original. Is that right?
Thanks

RJ;
Checked Firewheels website that part looks correct to me.
I used two sets of kickpanels to refurbish one good set.
I have 2 piece early panels also.
I am lacking a knob the balck plastic piece I have a couple but they're cracked.

Hi Todd,
Those knobs on the Fireclassics site don't look like what I have on my original two piece kickpanels. Mine are just round knobs.

I'm pretty sure the originals are the slotted shape with a tab.
The tab fits the slot in the panel. Sounds like you have some replacement
type installed?

I don't think my were ever replaced. If they were it was years and years ago. They look like they have been there forever. You do realize that I'm talking about the appearance of the KNOBS that you grab and pull to open or close the vents. Not sure we are talking about the same thing. It's the knobs that look different to me

Yup, black plastic knobs. Haven't seen round versions on
69 kick panels?

Here's a pic of the knob on the one piece kicks that I used for upper cable donors, using the angular knobs with the locating tab on the back; my early two piece kick panels use the same knob style.

Damn, I must be losing my mind in my old age. Guess I'll have to go out and look at them again. Got so much torn apart right now, I can't keep things straight. Thanks for the pics and all the other info.
I have heard a lot of guys say that the new kickpanels don't always fit very well, so will probably keep mine and just buy the cables then.

I refinished mine with SEM paint. They came out very nice. Now I want to buy those cables.

RJ -

I think we've pretty well determined that the reason the repro kick panels don't "fit" is because they only repro the later one piece kick panels, and the screw tab out in the door jamb is in a different place vs. the two piece kick panels the early cars have. Guys either redrill the hole in the jamb to match the repro panels, or they restore their two piece panels. I have not tried the repro panels, but I know that the jamb tab on the green one I posted above is in a different place than on the original panels for my car.

All that said, the cables from Firewheel look correct, and must be fairly new. I wish they'd been available when I did mine, as they would have saved a lot of repair (putting shrink tubing on the broken housings, glueing a broken knob collar, painting green knobs black, etc). Now that these are available, I wouldn't even consider looking for them used, because they are usually in bad shape.

Hi guys,
I want to thank you all for the good input. I went out and looked again at my vent levers, and the handles or whatever you want to call them are exactly like you show. I don't know why in the hell I was thinking they were round. My kickpanels are in great shape, so I will order the cable from that Fire Classics site. By the way, my panels do need either cleaning or paint. What is the best procedure for good looks and durability?
Thanks,\
RJ

I used the SEM paint for plastics. Turned very nice and durable.
