: Door hinge pins????
blackl78 Dec 20th, 07, 05:26 PM I went to rebuild my door hinges on my 67 today. I bought a rebuild kit with pins and bushings. I bought it from the paddock inc. here in Indiana our local supplier for muscle car parts. I found that the pins are a lot shorter than the originals. They have a groove cut in them on the pointed end that looks like a clip would go there to hold them in. They are to short to go through far enough for the clip to go on. Anyone had similar experiences or have any ideas? I would like to just buy some new ones that are longer and closer to the length of the originals. Anyone know where to buy them? Thanks everyone!
67 Deep Water Blue Dec 20th, 07, 06:41 PM Hey blackl78,
I got some for my 67 also; when I said they are shorter the guy told me that once they are in, they aren't going any where. But I have not installed yet. Maybe some one else knows more. Let us know how it turn out. I'm geting ready to install mine.
Good Luck
Rick
Rhino Dec 20th, 07, 10:15 PM My hinge was just about right, although my roller was a little too long. I was only only about an 1/8th inch shy of making everything fit. I ended up cutting the shoulder down to pick up a little bit of extra length. It worked out great.
Are you sure you've hammered them in as far as they'll go? Mine had a knurled edge that had to be pressed in pretty hard. If they are all the way in, do you have enough material on the head of the pin to shave it down enough to fit?
parkbrau Dec 20th, 07, 11:24 PM I think you have wrong hinge pins. They are supposed to go all the way through for those C-Clips to go on.
alanrw Dec 21st, 07, 12:09 AM ChevyPunch magazine, an online magazine mentioned on this site has a step by step article on how to rebuild door hinges. The article talks about the split pins. Once inserted, they are supposed to be slightly spread via hammer and chisle to lock the pin into place. Can't find the link, anyone have it?

1st 67 SS/RS Dec 21st, 07, 05:44 AM http://www.chevypunch.com/issues/ The March 2007 issue has it. If you need the .pdf version, I downloaded. One day I will rebuild mine. I have the parts from NPD, just haven't got the time to take the doors off to do it.
wheezer Dec 21st, 07, 06:46 AM My hinges were toast. I rebuild them with no special tools and it was a piece of cake (all new pins, rollers, springs, etc.). I had no length issues.

Thanks

Thanks for the great hook up Alan! Those hinges are for 68/69 that they are doing. I think the pins are shorter than 67's?? I am going to go to our local chevy dealer and see what they have. Thanks again!

Will do Jason, I am not at all happy with these pins. I wanted to replace them then knurl the edges down on the uppers to look like they did from the factory. With these replacements they wont hardly go all the way through. Has to be something else out there!

Yes, I second the thanks on that as well!!
blackl78 Dec 27th, 07, 03:35 PM Well I went to the chevy dealer and bought hinge pins today for my 67. I bought part# 20046147PIN. In my opinion these are going to work much better than the shorties from Paddock. These are actually to long, but not a problem! Im going to cut them off at the exact length as the originals and then use my bench grinder to bevel the tip again. I also have a plan as to smash the ends just like the factory did to hold them in place. Another nice thing about them is on the shoulder end the splines are longer, just like the originals. Thanks everyone!! Would like to hear everyones thoughts on crimping the beveled tip end of the pins, want these to look factory when Im done. Thanks again
