Happy holidays guys ...

To get right to the point, can anyone suggest some good reference books or videos for doing basic body work. The mechanical and electrical things I can handle.

I need a little guidance getting started on the bodywork. I have a
77 Type LT ( white ...blue vinyl top ) that I am beginning to
restore for my 16 yr old ... There are bubbles under the vinyl top
and bad spots in the lower fenders and rear quarters ... There is some rust in floor of the trunk. And certainly a small collection of blemishes, dents and dings... I am planning to make a run at the body work myself and make a later decision if I want to try tackle the painting.

I am looking for good information about sanding, stripping and prepping. One big hurdle is that I don't weld yet, but I plan to learn. Still, I don't mind paying someone to weld in new quarters for me. I am actually leaning towards just replacing the front fenders. But for now, I just need some references to consult so that I can plan and get started over this holiday season. Any good suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks in advance,
Steven

I’m not sure of any book, although I’m sure there are some good ones available.. I personally rented a few DVD's from Smartflix.com that helped me understand the process a bit more. They have all types of instructional videos like welding, painting, bodywork.. etc...

Kevin Tetz’s Panitucation series has been on my wish list for a while—just never had the money to buy it.

I saw some pieces of Panitucation on youtube.

I ordered the Tetz videos and they are actually pretty good. I learned alot and he makes it really easy to understand. Bottom line though you have to practice. I have an 80's Mustang that I practiced on based on the info from the videos and actually didn't come out too bad for a first time. It definitely builds confidence.

Kevin Tetz’s Panitucation series...

Is that the same Kevin from Trucks on SpikeTV?

That's the same Kevin... His series is a good set of videos on stripping paint, panel prep, and painting.

Hot Rod is doing a series of DVDs on bodywork and sheetmetal prep on the Goodmark '70 Chevelle convert. They've got 4 DVDs out so far, with sections on replacing floor pans and the trunk floor.

Motorbooks Workshop has several books on bodywork and painting. Barnes & Noble and Borders carry them in their stores, and can order them for you if they don't have them in stock.

good luck,
john

They sent me that DVD for some reason and said if I like it send them $7 if not send it back.
I thought it was a good buy so I kept it.

Me too!

In our cases, to bad its a Chevelle and not a 1st gen Camaro.
I wonder if we (Team Camaro) contacted them, Hot Rod or someone would make a restoration video using a 1st gen Camaro?
I would gladly pay for it. (within reason).
And the sooner the better! LOL!
