Great garages everyone! My garage has been my project for a while - always adding something to it and it turned out pretty extreme. Kind of my other hobby. I have the video games out there too so I have a blast with my 3 little boys (8,5,3) hanging out. Been thankful to put 2 other of my dream cars in there. Sold them and loving the fun of a classic muscle car.

...Can you guess what my favorite colors are??

I am very impressed with everyones shops. You guys Rock and isn't it nice to have wifes that let us live our dreams. Here's a few shots of mine at different agles over the last few years. My shop is still a work in progress since I spend all my spare time working on Camaro's. For the guys that are building- Cabinets, cabinets, Storage, storage, and bolt bens, and counter space is the key plus minumum ten' ceilings. This thread is the COOLEST.

No don't have the vette or viper anymore, had the c6 vette while, then went to the 06 viper. Sold the viper a year ago and recently went to the camaro. Those are my 3 lifelong dream cars and I've been blessed to have all 3. No way I could afford all 3 at once - my name should be Dr. "Debt" as it is. ha ha. The viper was awesome but just too much money to be tied up in. Funny cause the vette and camaro cost less than most standard suv's these days but everyone thinks they cost a fortune. I prefer to drive an old beater truck to work and have a fun car in the garage. It's a sad addiction...

Chad,

What kind of flooring is that in your garage?

VERY nice sir.

Ron, I already have my plans done, Im using free span Ibeam floor joists to span the 26' of mine and using real 3/4" plywood flooring for that extra added strength. We dont have the dormers in our plans, but now the Mrs. said 'wouldnt that be cool to have dormers like that guys'... hope I dont have to have plans redrawn again :D

Doug (greenZ), what type of heat in that floor? Elec. or Wirsbo?
My pole barn will have a 32 x 25 area thats insulated and heated with slab Wirsbo tubing with elec. boiler on off peak rates. :)

Aug 8th, 09, 01:02 PM
Jim, i also used floor joists to span 26'.They work like a charm-no bowing or sagging.
Dang-i could probably park one of my cars on the roof.:D

Chad,

Hi Dan,

It is called "racedeck". You can google it. I found a great deal through a corvette forum vendor. Normally runs like $4.5/sf but I got mine for around $3.25. It just snaps together and can be cut with power tools to fit nice against the walls. Don't have to have a new slab that way and you can take it with you if you move. I'm pretty happy with it overall except for when using jack it does leave some impressions if you don't use a piece of wood under your jack.

Jim,

I went back and forth on the dormers, and I am very glad I put them in. I plan on putting in a full bath in one of them, and a mini office in the other. If you look at the pic's, my dormers are 8' wide and have an 8' ceiling adding quite a bit of room. The other pic is the 26' long glue lam beams I used to support the floor right under the dormer walls. Floor joist are 2X12 on 16" centers. Beams are 18" wide. I have three of them, one runs over the garage/entrance door on front all the way across so no sag or bounce upstairs at all. I also went with 3/4" T&G flooring for the upstairs all the way across, not just between the knee walls.

Jim- Yes it will be radiant heat, 1500 feet of tubing in the building. Five different zones.

Thanks! You're right - hate to dirty it up so I end up changing oil out in the driveway how stupid is that! My neighbors REALLY think I'm sick when I'm out there wiping down the floor by hand with a soapy towel. Sick, very sick.

Doug, but what kind of radiant heat? There are either elec. cables or tubing and fluid inside it, both buried in the concrete. Which are you considering? I can give you some good hints regarding either depending on which one you want to go with. :)

That's hilarious. Cool picture to have of them. Seen my dad with the same look. I've often wished I could just snap my fingers and have everything back together like it was. Sure feels good to get it them on the road again. I cleaned up my garage today and swore I would leave the car alone but you know how long that will last....

It is Pex tubing with fluid running through it. When we get the garage finished I'll post up our experience, so far it has been pretty good, we prepped the base and put the rebar/tubing down ourselves to save some money.

The heat system going inplace will be a comercial unit, my Grandfather owns a plumbing company in PA, so he is hooking us up.

Finally got this hung today. My wife had it made for my birthday. Yes, I will stay with her forever! Can't believe she puts up with me. What is cool is that when I met her she already had a red 94 camaro. The way she drove it scared me - it was all I could do not to propose right away. Was it destiny or what?

I needed a second one because i found myself changing setups too often. I keep one w/ the head trammed and the vise indicated and the other is for more odd setups. The Lagun is beefier and I use it for heavier milling jobs.

Besides you can never have too many tools.

You'd be surprised how many nice barns and garages people have that are full of musclecars. Not high profile people either. They're quiet and humble, don't get involved in typical gearhead activities and rarely go to shows and cruise nights. They just drive.

There are also owners of exotics with large gargages underneath their homes. One would never know they were there. That's the way they want it.

These were taken at different stages since last year, last November it was an unfinished ,uninsulated , unheated icebox during the winter months and a sweatbox in the summer.
Last winter I threw a ceiling in to have some storage space and a place to put a furnace/ac unit in , added plenty of lighting ,insulated it and finished the walls.
This spring painted, epoxy coated the floor and did all the decorating,
All that's left is to put a compressor in the back left corner, get the satellite hooked up and build my permanent workbench... I had to leave something for this winters project.;)

LOVE the Camaro, and the garage is pretty sweet too!~ Nice work!

I was thinking of designing my garage (when my resto is done of course)... with articles from 1969--creating a time-machine effect. :D

Thanks Todd....where's the love for the Velles  :D , I built the garage when I built the house in 2000, I had no cars at the time...if I only knew, it'd be twice the size and a little taller.:( ;)

Sorry about that.... I am partial to Camaros, but yes--- those Chevelles are quite impressive! Just a guess... '67 and a '69? I do like those too... Enjoy...:beers:

That 66 is awesome.
I'm glad you got your priorities straight and were careful to make sure your beer is served correctly ( love the tap ) and 36 degrees sounds just right. :beers:

Sebert, great looking shop and cars

Can you please resize your photos to about 880x660 which is site policy. This will make it easier to see them fully without scrolling side to side and it brings the typed print into full view as well. It also helps the folks with dial up computers who struggle with very large photos. :) thanks for understanding.

alot better, thanks. If you keep the width to under 880, you wont see the scroll bar at the bottom at all. When pics are over that size, the text follows it and forces you to scroll to read, thats what really drives folks nuts. Great clear pics too. :)
