Hello,
I'm in the process of reworking my interior. Took everything out, and am looking to put FatMat on the insides of the door skins. Now that I can see in there, the inside of the door skins are very rough, as if some type of undercoating or sound deadener was sprayed in there. I can wire brush it smoother, but haven't been able to get it down to metal. Don't really want to sand blast in there. My paint and body work were done when I bought the car, and I don't want to mess that up. Problem is just that previous owner didn't really clean up the hidden spots as well as I want it done.
Is this rough inner surface I speak of something from the factory? Have you guys seen this on your cars? What should I do about it to get the fat mat to stick. Too rough right now. I could get the loose rust and crap off, then paint it with Rust Bullet, then just Fat Mat the inner side of the door under the door panel trim. Help please. All suggestions appreciated.

My doors had that rough surface on the inside and I think it was applied at the factory. I didn't want to apply sound deadening material to it and then create a water trap so I didn't put any in the doors. Perhaps you can spray in some of the stuff called Lizard Skin. I hear it goes on pretty well and may give you the desired sound deadening effects.
