Won these on ebay recently and am wondering the best way to clean and protect them.

Will still be a bit before the car is ready for them.
I am no bodyman, but I am trying to learn. Would I be better to sand? Dip? Media Blast? DP90 afterwards?

Go easy on me please.
Thanks
Virgil

I recently found these and absolutely love them for stripping paint/rust.

It's a Paint and rust remover by Gator Grit. I found them at Lowes for $8 a piece. They work very fast without much effort. Their only downfall is that they're a little fragile. I'd try to keep it away from sharp edges in the sheet metal until you're more familiar with it. I stripped my entire trunk floor and inner wheel houses with one disk.

If it's only surface rust you're wanting to remove you can easily do it with a knotted or twisted wire wheel on an angle grinder. They'll last much longer and do just as good of a job.

I had two media blasted for only $ 65. They came out great and all the rust and paint gone.I've used those roloc type discs and love them except they aren't going to get into any of the nooks and crannies like you'll need.

I would have them dipped. Then dp90 them.

I used this thing to clean up the floors in a car I was working on ... I second this thing. Really liked the results and they last a really long time.

For these fenders, I would look into maybe using a Metal Cleaner (Por-15 or Eastwood sell it) and then hit with DA sander. Quick primer coat to seal them.

They sell Ospho ( metal/rust cleaner ) at your hardware store. It comes in quarts and gallon sizes. It is the same thing that the paint supplies sell but cheaper. Buy you a gallon and put some in a spray bottle. Spray the fender with ospho and let it sit awhile. If it dries up respray it. Go over it with rough steel wool and the rust will come off.

Thanks for all the replies. Haven't had much time to mess with them, with Santa and all. I've used Ospho for years at work, ut have never tried it on anything at home. Can pick up cheap locally.
Thanks again, and Merry CHRISTmas.
