Does anyone know which interior colors had the center shroud painted black on the center and top?

View Full Version : Two tone 1968 N30 Deluxe steering wheel 68 Ragtop Dec 24th, 07, 09:59 AM Does anyone know which interior colors had the center shroud painted black on the center and top? http://i12.ebayimg.com/07/i/000/cd/c9/155b_1.JPG bertfam Dec 24th, 07, 03:16 PM James, that's a very good question and one that I can't seem to find an answer to. I've seen the black accents on all five of the 1968 N30 wheel colors however, I've also seen all these same colors without the black accents. The colors available were: Black (came with black accents only) Blue Red Gold Turquoise I'm not sure what the story is on this. Ed 68 Ragtop Dec 24th, 07, 03:44 PM I figured you would know since you are doing the CRG steering wheel report. I have been collecting pictures of the 68 N30 wheel from very original cars and have found the same thing. From the small data base I have, gold, red, and turquoise are frequently two tone, and blue is 50%. Doesn't seem to have a rhyme or reason. bertfam Dec 24th, 07, 06:33 PM Well, I decided to do more detective work and after a couple of hours looking at the database pictures, it appears the black accents was applied to the early cars and later cars didn't get the accents. It looks like late February, 1968 was the changeover date. I found two exceptions to this "rule" and they're both Z87 deluxe interior cars built at the Norwood plant. I have a 10D and an 11E car without the black accents. However, both of these cars appear to be modified with questionable originality to them. I also have a "mix and match" during the weeks of 02D and 02E, so it appears that the change over probably occurred during this two week time frame with both wheels being used simultaniously. So, mystery solved? I welcome comments, especially from people with original cars that DON'T match the above criteria. Ed 7DL78 Dec 25th, 07, 07:22 PM my red wheel has the black two tone. My car was built last week of Dec. 1967 68 Ragtop Dec 26th, 07, 01:48 PM An early/late split makes sense to me. That would mean that dealer brochures would be early and show two tone wheels. Anyone have 68 dealer brochures? bertfam Dec 26th, 07, 02:04 PM That would mean that dealer brochures would be early and show two tone wheels. Yup. Like this.
