Hey all anyone out there running F-70 14 Firestone wide oval bias ply tires.
I'm thinking of getting a set through Coker tire? Any thoughts?
Thanks

i thought about getting some for my 'bird, but the question is: do you really want to go 40 years backwards in tire technology? if it's a show-only car or a museum piece, i say go for it. if you drive it with any kind of regularity, get some radials. i went the redline from diamondback tire. it's a modern tire that is shaved and red or white lines vulcanized into the sides. kinda like a retread, but for the sidewalls. i don't know of and couldn't find anyone who makes the wide oval logo for them, so i chose the redlines. here's a pic:

with a radial, you can use modern alignment settings and not worry about the tire 'turning square' from sitting too long. just something to think about...

I have them on my Z10. I don't drive it much but if I did I would put something else on it. You can really tell the difference betweenthem and radials.

Yep except I think mine are D's on my resto- the SS350 got the big rubber!

This car sat low with G50s all the way around during its youth (or maybe it was mine).

They behave better than I thought they would. Seemed like they were a little lumpy the first couple of miles. Prolly got 10 miles on it now...been to the gas station and the muffler shop.

Merry Christmas!

I run a set of D/70/14 Wide ovals on my original steels 14x5. I checked with Coker and they looked up the production date for Wide Oval white letters and they told me on cars produced in the 2nd half of 67 they were available along with redline. They are not that bad to drive with but definitely no comparison to a BFG radial. I also run a set of those.

My Dec. '66 350SS/RS came w/ D-70/14 Firestone redline Wide Ovals on painted steel rims w/ dog-knot, dog-dish h/c's it.

Remember, the old tires were only good for like 25,000 miles if you were lucky..

Suckers didn't hold corners very well and wore fast, imho, compared to our modern tires now..

Wow thanks guys lots of great comments. I just sold toinght my 15" Rallys with BFG radials.(ever try Craigs list to sell anything? I mean I listed them Christmas eve and Christmas morning a guy calls and comes over and buys them -I'm very impressed with Craigs list)

I'm going back to the original 14" Rally. I really like the look of the old style tire over the looks of the BFG radials. I really don't drive the car a lot. Just to local shows. So sounds like I should be okay with the wide ovals.
Thanks all.

They are fine!

I had my original D-70's on the front of my car w/ my great big tall, 9.50/14 M&S's on the back when I made that 145 mph run between Moberly and Macon, MO early that long gone Sunday morning trying to get back to Mom's to catch my RR carpool up to Runnels, IA back in the summer of '67.

I never knew any different UNTIL I bought my first set of radials on another car much later!! What a difference they made.

At present, I am running F-70, 14's 2 ply Firestones on my '68 and really like how quiet they run, unlike the radials that I had one before. They don't corner as well as radials, and you have to keep a lot closer attention when driving, but I like the look of them. Go for it!
