: 2+ Years (and counting)
FrankenChevy Dec 29th, 07, 05:34 PM It was a nice day today so I decided to clean the garage before the weather turned bad. I rolled my '67 outside to make it easier to clean and decide to take a few shots and share them. I started this project a little over two years ago. To get to this stage I have done the following:
1) Replaced both rear quarters, trunk pan, both inner and outer rear wheel wells (DSE Minis), both outer rockers, full floor pan, upper and lower cowls, both outer cowls (tulips), and the dash panel.
2) Repaired both inner rockers and front and rear window seal lands.
3) Installed Wayne Due C4 Subframe, DSE subframe connectors, Truck Arm rear suspension w/ detroit locker Ford 9 inch, T-56 6-speed (w/ Viper internals), DSE Rollcage, VA Gen 4 A/C, and Ron Davis radiator
4) Custom fabbed the side exhaust
I ordered my 502 cid/ 625 hp big block a few weeks ago so I'm getting ready to make sure it fits. Probably going to go with a Vintage Front Runner pulley system. Right now I have a mock-up block installed. The front sheet metal is loosely fastened right now. You can also see my high tech cardboard front spoiler mock-up. I've been thinking about making an aluminum front spoiler but I'm not real sure yet. Hope you enjoy the pics.
Dougs72Nova Dec 29th, 07, 05:45 PM Thats some major rubber on the back there! Car is looking sharp. Keep up the good work and progress pictures.
Car nut Dec 29th, 07, 06:09 PM Outstanding, your garage looks pretty clean to me. It looks like it will be a monster.

Mav68erick Dec 29th, 07, 06:28 PM Nice what size tires are those? look like 17 inch rims to ?
that looks like a stock gas tank? thinking back to another black camaro... are you the one that cut the corners off and flipped then and welded them back in so it looked like this?

TraxUnderground Dec 29th, 07, 06:53 PM Super Cool !!
Musclecar Dec 29th, 07, 06:53 PM That is going to be one sweet ride when you get her done... keep up the good work.. I'm sure the wait will be well worth it....:D
FrankenChevy Dec 29th, 07, 07:00 PM Mav68erick,
The wheels are 17's... the fronts are 255/40's and the rears are 315/35's. The gas tank is a stock tank with CE sump (available through Summit) that I welded in. Since I don't have a leaf spring rear suspension, I don't have an issue with the shackles hitting the tank (which is the normal problem).
Dayton68Z28 Dec 29th, 07, 09:20 PM Shackles? We don't need no stinken shackles...
prostreet69camaro Dec 30th, 07, 11:41 AM I have seen aluminum front spoliers on ebay. Nice car.
67pat Dec 30th, 07, 01:32 PM Tell me about that wiper motor you have on there...looks late model something right?Nice car!
FrankenChevy Dec 30th, 07, 01:47 PM 67pat,
The wiper motor is a Detroit Speed motor that has variable speeds. They can be found at www.detroitspeed.com.

BA. Dec 30th, 07, 09:52 PM Bill, that ride is coming along nicely!!! We're on the same path but I'm a few months behind ya. Congrats on the engine purchase also!
rs1968ss Dec 31st, 07, 07:53 AM A 67 with no wing windows? How soon before the 67 guys here start yelling? :D
Very nice car!
Mav68erick Dec 31st, 07, 02:32 PM I know no wings looks like a real car
oh and the first pic with the flat black w/e coating that is looks like it would make a good Batmobile
FrankenChevy Dec 31st, 07, 03:15 PM Don't worry the vent windows are safely tucked away. After what I had to go through to find them (or at least parts for them), purchase them and then refinish them, they are far away from where the sparks are flying.
rsgt Jan 1st, 08, 12:59 PM If you are interested in the aluminum spoiler you can check it out at spoilersbyrandy.com
Pro-Street69Camaro468 Jan 22nd, 08, 04:31 PM Do you have a wire harness if its AAW they made me wires to go thru my fuse block istead of making another hole if interested.

For what, the wiper motor?
6D9 Jan 23rd, 08, 02:54 PM Looks killer man!
FrankenChevy Jan 31st, 08, 03:47 PM As an update.... Christmas comes late (or very early). I finally got the engine today. I bought it from Gilbert Chevrolet (formally Sallee Chevy). It's their 625 hp 502 cid. I had them dyno it and it topped out at 622 hp at 6000 rpm and 605 ft-lbs of torque. Here are some pics. If I don't watch out I may actually finish this project and then what will I do. On second thought, are we ever really finished? Next up... paint and body work.
eville Jan 31st, 08, 03:51 PM very nice!
soupy Feb 13th, 08, 06:34 PM Car looks great !
FrankenChevy May 18th, 08, 01:30 PM Progress has been slow of late but progress is progress. The '67 has been to the body shop for final panel fit and then I took it down to Jackson, Mississippi to get the body dipped and EDP coated. Here's a pic of the body loaded up and ready to bring back home after dipping. Weld up a few holes they had to drill to drain the fluids and then next weekend it's off to the body shop for final paint. I will probably get it back around the end of July or the first of August (crossing fingers).
FrankenChevy Sep 8th, 08, 04:43 PM Finally got the paint and body work completed!!!!! I decided to go with Tuxedo black and Ermine white stripes. I had Snuffy's Rod Shop in Centerville Tennessee do all the paint & bodywork. The first pic or two show the delivery of the car to his shop and some pics of it in his shop. The last pics are at home in my garage. Kevin (aka Snuffy) did a great job on it. He painted the underbody and trunk with thinned bedliner and he also did all the interior and exterior paint. He is still working on the interior gauge cluster and other odds and ends but this gets me back up and working. Enjoy the pics.... I'll be in the garage.
NICKO Sep 8th, 08, 04:54 PM very nice, love the fr spoiler, :beers:

Very nice ride you have there Bill, congratulations. I believe my 69 Camaro is originally from Murfreesboro, TN...At least that is where it was restored by one of the previous owners back in 2001.
Hoov15 Sep 9th, 08, 06:08 AM That is a sweet ride, cant wait to see it done, I myself am going to start a project soon. Cant wait to see the motor in there!
rlyfst1 Sep 9th, 08, 09:08 PM Very nice Bill. Your car is coming along beautifully.
67speedfreak Sep 10th, 08, 06:43 AM Lookin good! :beers:
FrankenChevy Sep 30th, 08, 08:21 AM Some more eye candy. Final assembly is going, well... as planned....two steps forward and one step back. The last pic is of the front grill being assembled. Apparently one of my aftermarket fenders still had a couple of tooling tabs left on it (at least that what I thought it was). I had to cut them off and touch it up. No big deal but I hate cutting on a freshly painted car even when it is going to be covered up with the bezel. High anxiety and large "pucker" factor when doing the deed. That when you resort to "extra" careful techniques.... sort of the "belt and suspenders" mentality at this stage of the game. I also have pulled the a/c drier and lines from the front and painted them flat black.... I hate seeing stuff behind that beautiful RS grill. And I also replaced those Home Depot bright and shiny zinc plated screws on the RS Headlight doors with some blackened socket heads. More pics to come as the "long strange trip" near completion.
Rocketrod Sep 30th, 08, 02:40 PM Nice ride!!
GMJoe Sep 30th, 08, 02:41 PM Your garage is waaaaaaay too clean, and thats a beautifull 67 you got.
The black w/ white stripes really looks great
FrankenChevy Feb 7th, 09, 03:24 PM Well, the car is almost done (if they are ever done) so I decided to update with some pics. It was a great day in Middle Tennessee today so I fired it up and took it out for only the second time. I took it out "around the block" last weekend on a more "marginal" day but today was perfect. I'm still working through a few issues but I seem to keep getting further and further from home each time I make a run so hopefully I'll get all the kinks out. As it stands, here are the relatively small problems 1) the fuel tank gauge doesn't work 2) the radiator overflow is not working too well but I think I know what to do 3) The wipers stop midway....probably a linkage issue. All pretty minor problems for now. The thing is a beast and it is pretty loud with the side exhaust so I'm still trying to get used to the various noises. The detroit locker is noisy as well as the fuel pump but I'm still trying so see what is normal and what is a noise due to a problem. I also finally got around to posting all my pics from the build online. They can be found in close to some chronological order on www.photobucket.com/frankenchevy Gotta run. Enjoy. Time for another project.
CS3 Auto Feb 7th, 09, 06:34 PM Very nice
Rocketrod Feb 7th, 09, 06:39 PM Killer looking ride!!!
Arai Feb 7th, 09, 07:27 PM Who makes that roll cage? I notice is has the low bars that come off the mair rear hoop and go to the front toekicks in a low profile manner beside the front seat instead of across the door. This is what I want if I decide to install a cage. Do you have any more pics?
FrankenChevy Feb 8th, 09, 05:57 AM Chris,
DSE makes the rollcage...sort of. The rear section is DSE whereas I bought the side bars from Jegs (550-940008) and cut them to fit and I fabbed the small plates at the "kick" in the side bars. I welded the bottom of the fabbed plates into the upstanding pinch weld flange on the rocker (where the inner and outer rocker are welded together) and welded the top of the plate to the bottom on the side bar. There should be quite a few pics in the photobucket link shown in the last post. Let me know if the pics don't quite do it for you and I can always snap some more and post them.
DougP Feb 8th, 09, 05:59 AM Bill - congrats -- car looks great
