View Full Version : JimM's garage cam
JimM Dec 31st, 07, 09:35 AM is now online (at least today and tomorrow.)
If you want to see my garage and my cars, and possibly even catch me working out there... type this into your browser:
http://71.194.154.8:28000 and hit enter.
user = team
p/w = camaro
It will want you to OK the install of an avtiveX control or two, and then the video, camera controls, and possibly even audio will come up!
This is a fairly high end pan tilt zoom camera, so have fun. Let me know if anything doesn't work, and for sure let me know if the audio does work,
Thanks Steve (eville) for helping me test this yesterday.
RobSS1113 Dec 31st, 07, 09:49 AM thats cool .. too bad it did'nt work for me .. will check later.

Hatman Dec 31st, 07, 11:18 AM Thats neat & all but it,s not somthing I would want in my shop. I mean the everbody watching me do everything part , like when I smash my thumb with a hammer, drop cylinder head on foot ect, ect.
Steptoe Dec 31st, 07, 11:18 AM yep works fine putting a new shelf up in by the big ladder?

Vintage 68 Dec 31st, 07, 11:18 AM Sure hope you don't fall off that ladder young man ;)
And close the hood on the rag-top, you're giving people 'Chrome envy' :D
Hummmm - I never thought of putting a camera in the shop, I usually have Kalif looking over my shoulder when working on a Camaro lately anyway
Mister G Dec 31st, 07, 11:24 AM Asking for username and password??????????
Joe Harrison Dec 31st, 07, 11:29 AM That's pretty cool!! Now stop posing for the camera and answer my PM!!!
Joe
Steptoe Dec 31st, 07, 11:30 AM Was watchng up out up the shelf by the ladder
left handed huh elite 10% of the world
JimM Dec 31st, 07, 11:30 AM Thats neat & all but it,s not somthing I would want in my shop. I mean the everbody watching me do everything part , like when I smash my thumb with a hammer, drop cylinder head on foot ect, ect.
I really don't mind tht. I've been making an idiot of myself on this forum for years. We're all human, and **** happens.
And yup, step, need a couple new shelves for all the parts that will shortly come flying off my vert. Anyone wanna pop over and help me with the hood?
Steptoe Dec 31st, 07, 11:32 AM Yep hang on a minute m8 just have a shower get dressed 7:30 am here will be over yesterday ..its new years day here now
Joe Harrison Dec 31st, 07, 11:36 AM Yep hang on a minute m8 just have a shower get dressed 7:30 am here will be over yesterday ..its new years day here now
So how is 2008? :D
Tell me about it, was the party good. I need to know everything so I can tell everyone tonight what's going to happen before it does :D
Joe
clwilcox33 Dec 31st, 07, 11:37 AM That's pretty darn slick Jim. I think it's going to kill your bandwidth until this thread dies or the novelty of it wears off :D
Steptoe Dec 31st, 07, 11:38 AM We get the sound..when 1 user was on line me the sounds was sort of ok but bit broken up...then get a couple users and goes to crap
At 5 users lost the connection...maybe turn sound off
with more than 1 person using the Pan sort gets a bit hard.out of control so just letting others play
Joe Harrison Dec 31st, 07, 11:40 AM How about some info on this little gem Jim......After having my shop broken into and Camaro parts stolen, this might be a good idea. Does it record? About the bandwidth. Does that slow "your" connection?
Joe
68Holdon Dec 31st, 07, 11:41 AM Cant get on, keeps comin up object protected. What ever that means.
JimM Dec 31st, 07, 11:44 AM Well, itsa Dlink 5300G. Set me back about 300 clams. Originally bought it for security, but this is kinda fun. Nice to know my buds are keeping trac of me. Maybe I'll do better work knowing you'all are watching.
clwilcox33 Dec 31st, 07, 11:46 AM You might get a lot of... "I wouldn't have done it like that" 's :D
camsdad Dec 31st, 07, 11:51 AM That's cool.
Cancer sticks.... Thats bad :(
Dam nice garage.
I could get this to work with IE7 and the active update, but can not get it to work with Mozilla Firefox. Hmmm!
Got audio but its very choppy.
Steptoe Dec 31st, 07, 11:53 AM I have a set up using a Geovision 4 camera card in one of my Computers
4 static cameas
The geovisin gives me heaps of opitions including doing what jim is doing
record motion sensitive able to mask number plate reconition etc
Choosing type of camera is important espec the vocal piont
most cheaper camaers are 3.5mm but these are wide veiw and no distance defintion so mine are 6 mm 12mm and 18mm
Cost of cameras card cable 250 gig hd (3 months recording) $1500 NZ about $1000 US
wiskeesour Dec 31st, 07, 12:00 PM I just watched you play with the hood, along with a lovely lady in a white sweater and a young man in an orange shirt.
Neat.
rojo Dec 31st, 07, 12:02 PM When I first logged on everything was still and the hood was up but on the '67. Five minutes later the hood is off and you're turning wrenches. Was it buffered up with some old shots or something?
Steptoe Dec 31st, 07, 12:02 PM Jim at work as seen from New Zealand
http://www.kakariki.net/camaro/Jim.jpg
Vintage 68 Dec 31st, 07, 12:05 PM  WOW - I don't have a 'Lava Lamp' in my shop ... :D
I take it you garage is heated Jim
Rodder Dec 31st, 07, 12:10 PM I wonder how many other garage cams pop up this week...
Mister G Dec 31st, 07, 12:13 PM Just got in and my kudo's to you. Nice, very nice!
Happy New Year guys............
69 L 89 RAG Dec 31st, 07, 12:16 PM Can I borrow your weed eater? :D
JimM Dec 31st, 07, 12:17 PM yup, of course my garage is heated!
I need to see what needs to be done with "settings" right now I have video to "medim" and audio on. I may turn the audio off if it's screwing things up.
The camera should be live at 30 frames per second all the time. That's what I get when I look at it inhouse. I'm pretty sure frames get dropped depending on connection speed. I have no idea how multiple viewers affect the bandwidth. The camera is streaming audio and video constantly. It doesn't affect our network here, but the cable upload speed is not exactly blazing so I don't know what's getting out.
For now, all I did to put it live was determine my WAN ip address, and open a few ports in the router.
OH BTW, it's lunchtime.
click Dec 31st, 07, 01:38 PM My firefox wont load it, my IE7 is trying now but wont complete a load yet after 5 min. I will keep trying. It finally asked me for adding activeX which I allowed. Its still trying to complete a connection.
Jim I know you are aware of this, its like having a milkshake and handing out straws, the more straws (viewers) the less there is of the milkshake (video/audio) to share. As more guys log on your router, its really gonna dog down the system on your end. If you had T1 or Fiberoptic with 100meg service it would help :D
click Dec 31st, 07, 01:47 PM Now Im in and see you there :)
You need to edit your notice at top of the clip for date and time, Its way off on date :)
picky picky picky I know. Cool tho.
ZZ430DropTop67RS Dec 31st, 07, 01:53 PM Can't get there from here, password protected.
JimM Dec 31st, 07, 01:58 PM was at the top, Don.

I'm trying to get into the admin on the camera, turn off the audio and cut back the frame rate a bit. No idea how many are on it now, but it won't let me in either!!!
rojo Dec 31st, 07, 02:01 PM There were 5 users just a minute ago.
JimM Dec 31st, 07, 02:01 PM ok, I got in, turned off the audio and cut back the video rate a bit. Camera just rebooted and is back online.
click Dec 31st, 07, 02:02 PM I logged off and waited a few min, then went back in, got right through, it said 4 users online now... but got right into it again. :)
click Dec 31st, 07, 02:04 PM Hey I see Carol is ordering a new $15,000 digital camera system online too :D :beers:
You may want to turn off access to the pan and tilt controls as well. Folks are competing to look around and that will also eat up band width. :) Just let it pan back and forth and leave it at that.
Vintage 68 Dec 31st, 07, 02:35 PM Oh, sorry - I had to leave your site for a few minutes to go whip up a batch of brownies (I'm licking the bowl right now ;) )and get a large glass of milk ...
Where are you Jim - come on entertain us ...
Wife keeps asking if I don't have anything else to do :D
clwilcox33 Dec 31st, 07, 02:36 PM My firefox wont load it, my IE7 is trying now but wont complete a load yet after 5 min. I will keep trying. It finally asked me for adding activeX which I allowed. Its still trying to complete a connection.
Jim I know you are aware of this, its like having a milkshake and handing out straws, the more straws (viewers) the less there is of the milkshake (video/audio) to share. Yeah, I haven't been able to view the camera live yet either. IE7 with Vista. I can click and get snapshots though. Let us know when you get the T1 or Fiber ;)
JimM Dec 31st, 07, 02:37 PM ok ok... slavedrivers! About all that's left topside is the header bolts and dipstick, then it will be time to crawl under. You all can watch my feet for a while.
JimM Dec 31st, 07, 02:43 PM I think you guys locked it up. It hasn't moved ina while, and I get nuttin when I try to view from here, I'm gonna reboot it.

I think your tool box or your car is on the wrong side of the room :) You are wearing out a path to the toolbox :D
Kev
ROTFLMFAO!!! Ye, Kev, I think you're right. I thought about putting the vert on the other side, then thought it might be better where it is, cause it's gonna be imobile for a while...
Plugs looked like crap, she running richer than I thought with that carb.
I won't miss the angle plug heads, hafta take the headers off to get more than 3 plugs out.
Why is the last header bolt on the pass side so hard to remove?
I sure did get that dipstick tube in there good the last time...
Mav68erick Dec 31st, 07, 03:20 PM Not cool... you bent over and your crack was showing... you had paper towel in your hands? maybe cleaning your rims or something..

Why thank you Scott, I do aim to please!
Sorry for the crack guys... been trying to keep my behind pointed in the other direction... it was spilled antifreeze.
I hope I don't regret not pushing her back before the wheels came off, got a lil over 2 feet between the bumper and the garage door, hope the more than 5 between the front and the wall is enough to get the motor and trans out.
I am done for tonight. Time to get cleaned up and head for the sister in law's house for new years eve. I'll be out bright and early in the AM, you can watch my feet while I pull the headers, block drains, driveshaft, speedo cable, and gearshift. Hope to have the ole 383 on the stand by noon, but it will probably be more like 3.
I'll leave the lavalamp on fer ya!
g'night all!

Jim, I tried it soon after you posted this earlier today. I had to click on/off of the still shot to see changes when I used the pan. In other words, no streaming. I'm using FireFox too. I will try it again.

Ok, somethings causing this page to be prompted to log in on Jim's camera when the page loads... ???
Found it! the picture linked above is on Jim's camera server and was forcing a password prompt when accessing this page...
Dayton68Z28 Jan 1st, 08, 01:35 PM Cam doesn't work for me.
I give up!
Instead of watching Jim work on his Camaro, I'm going to work on my 68.
JimM Jan 1st, 08, 02:15 PM Well, that was the Walmart trip from Hell! $540 and 3 hours later, I finally get to sit down and relax again. We need to get a big pot of chili started for dinner, then I need to either find or go buy some engine stand bolts. I still hope to get er out today.
JimM Jan 1st, 08, 02:37 PM Carols says" bring it in the house, they can watch us cook chili"

MMMMMM, the chili was good too.
So can we now 'Vote' on how he modifies his car
Sorry John, parts are all ready bought, hehe.
and vote him off if he does sub-standard work :D
I'll take that one, no problem. This time, I WILL CURE ALL THE OIL LEAKS!!!
Looks like I'm done for tonight. Super Mark may be able to swap motors in 4 hours, I got the better part of 2 days just getting that dirty oily thing out of there. I'm gonna leave her hanging from the hoist tonight, it will be easier cleaning off the trans that way. Wrestling TKO's is a beetch! Gotta find something to set that trans on when she comes off, thought about using my lil stool, but she'd fold right up. :(
So tomorrow I need to bring home:
Something to hold the trans about a foot off the floor.
4 3/8" bolts the right length for the engine stand, and a buncha washers.
A LOT of cardboard to put under there while I clean that mess off, to save my pretty floor.
4 1 ft square peices of 3/4" plywood to put under the jackstands, they're digging into the tiles a lil bit.
Any suggestions on something to clean that mess off?
It's mostly just oil, mixed with a lil road dirt, need something in a spray bottle, should just be able to hose it all off.
Geezer Jan 1st, 08, 07:50 PM I steal the spray n wash from the laundry room at times. It'll take road tar off the exterior paint without hurting it, never left it on long but never had a problem.
Vintage 68 Jan 1st, 08, 07:56 PM MMMMMM, the chili was good too.

Jim, Good to hear you're dinner turned out well - now about this thing with 'Us' not having any input on this project ...
:D
Try "Oil Eater" cleaner, I buy it at CostCo.
The stuff works fantastic and doesn't hurt tile, carpet or anything I've found. (still don't how those grease stains got on the carpet ...)
2x67rs/ss Jan 1st, 08, 08:01 PM Jim I got in a little late on this thread tonight. Pretty cool and thanks for leaving the light on! Hope to get to watch you work soon.
Geezer Jan 1st, 08, 09:47 PM I think you left your drop light on...
Johnny B Jan 1st, 08, 10:18 PM The crowd was STUNNED as Jim pulled the engine and trans together, WITHOUT removing the front clip!!!!:hurray:
Looks like it is going well!...Jb
wiskeesour Jan 1st, 08, 10:25 PM I just looked and thought I saw an engine layin there...Nice work. I gotta get me a good job and get a garage like that.
Johnny B Jan 1st, 08, 10:50 PM Oh, BTW... MY lovely wife made chili with ground TURKEY, no hot spices, and NO beans. She said something about a healthy new year!
YUCK, PFHEWWWY,:noway: quick gimmie a beer to wash away the taste!!! I am jealous of yall's chili!! Jb

Geezer Jan 2nd, 08, 05:16 PM Nice looking hood top convertable you got there Jim :D
zdld17 Jan 2nd, 08, 07:03 PM Jim, you pulled motor and trans out together? Making me nervous, set it down on floor, please. Nice bass on wall. See you got the Cloyes cover.
JimM Jan 2nd, 08, 07:42 PM I always pull em together Don, ain't into wrestling TKO's under the car. She's only 6 inches off the ground, the hoist will hold her, and it ain't far to fall.
Which lucky 5 saw the unvieling of the new AFR Eliminators?
Geezer Jan 2nd, 08, 07:44 PM They look nice!:D
zdld17 Jan 3rd, 08, 06:23 AM I only saw you handling the dist in one hand and a green bottle in the other. Seems I can't view link up here at office like I can at home. Must be security reasons.
dreamweaver Jan 3rd, 08, 11:43 AM Ya know, this is a bit unfair for people like me out on the west. Most of the time I don't log on until the evening and, by that time, it's pretty late back there.... haven't got to see anything except a static garage. I think you should be required to work on your cars late at night at least twice a week so we out west can watch too.
All in favor of Jim pulling a midnight shift twice a week raise your hands :hurray:
wiskeesour Jan 3rd, 08, 12:43 PM I saw the AFR"S!!! WOW!!
dbx1969 Jan 3rd, 08, 03:02 PM Have you heard about Chantix? it's amazing stuff...
Yep, my son found out about it as soon as it was approved. I will likely try it out. But I wouldn't call something like 44% after 12wks amazing. Compared to other remedies...maybe so. But I'd like to know the numbers after say, 6 or 12 mths. My father quit cold turkey over 25yrs ago...no problem. My mother chewed Nicorette gum for nearly 10yrs. No, I'm not joking. Everyone is different.
thorpe67RS Jan 3rd, 08, 05:35 PM Jeez, you could at least leave the light on so i can snoop around your garage while your not there. :)
DOUG G Jan 3rd, 08, 05:42 PM I see a little light (nite lite ?) the camera is cool though  (too much evidence to get me in trouble though ... lol)
JimM Jan 3rd, 08, 06:34 PM Craig, did you finally get in? :hurray:
For you left out west coast guys, I did take last night off and watch a movie by the fire with Carol... Tonight I'll be practicing "parts cleaning 101" starting in about half an hour. Unfortunately, I left the dolley I was gonna put the tko on at work, so it will have to remain attached for now.
98blackburb Jan 3rd, 08, 06:47 PM Nice Garage,Be careful with those Lava Lamps though ,I've heard of fires from them.My daughter had 1 in her room after reading that I went in that thing was hot as &*^%#..........Nice Car and Garage JIM !!!Thanks for sharing:thumbsup:
Steptoe Jan 3rd, 08, 06:51 PM For you left out west coast guys....
West coast is close...Im sitting on the other side of the Pacfic Ocean!!
On the other side of the international date line..
Which means Im seeing what jim is already doing tomorrow!!!
Hey Steps, that's pretty funny. Say, do I get Saturday off like I asked or do I have to go to work?
Joe Harrison Jan 3rd, 08, 08:27 PM Al brews beer........Al must work all days to brew beer!!
HarleyD67 Jan 3rd, 08, 10:19 PM Jim it's dark in here I'm scared can you get me a night light please.:D
How's the floor holding up to the jack, cherry picker and engine stand?
It wouldn't let me in the last few days so I've had to settle for reading the daily's, but it sounds like things are coming along.:beers:
Now there real question is are you recording this for TC's next addition to the Punch mag a how to segment from Jim's Garage.
JimM Jan 4th, 08, 05:48 AM lmao.... I've yet to figure out how to record anything, hopefully someone else is?
I made up some foot square peices of 3/4" plywood to put under the stands, they were making indents in the floor.
Buck Jan 4th, 08, 06:10 AM Well make sure you PM him if he really screws something up so he can not do it the next day than... :)

thorpe67RS Jan 4th, 08, 06:56 AM Craig, did you finally get in? :hurray:
Yes..im in. Of course if i would have read through your original post i would have been in much sooner. The first few times i tried i didnt load the Active X. The more i think about it though...watching you work is just going to depress me. :(
Reason #1--I have things I want to do to my cars this winter.
Reason #2--The fact that my shop is in way to much disarray right now to do anything in there.
Which then makes me think about how much work i have to actually do in my shop to get it back in working order and then i get really depressed. Thanks a lot Jim.
dreamweaver Jan 4th, 08, 03:35 PM I think you should be required to to post a schedule of when you are going to be working in the garage so we can plan our day acordingly :)
Maybe if the ida catches on and we get a bunch of people on the live cam program we could have a new section in the forums. What would be a good title for it? How about "Restoration Live"
68DaveV Jan 4th, 08, 03:38 PM It's dark in there now. Maybe you should hook up a light that comes on when we log in. Just put a motion sensor light by the camera so when we move it the light turns on.

Glad you got in, Craig. Now get motivated and get yours done.
That month I spent sanitizing my garage was VERY motivational. It's such a nice place to work and play now.
JimM Jan 4th, 08, 04:02 PM I think you should be required to to post a schedule of when you are going to be working in the garage so we can plan our day acordingly :)
Friday is Carol's "I ain't cooking" night. Which means we either order pizza or go out. Which puts me in the garage around 8 central, maybe.
Tomorrow, I'll be out there early. Glad I read this, it's reminded me to go grab the dolly I'm gonna put the trans on!
dreamweaver Jan 4th, 08, 04:03 PM Or you could be a be a real team player and pony up fo a second camea with a night vision lens. Then connect a light sensor in line that will ratate between cameras depending on how much light is in the room. Shouldn't set you back more than three or four grand.
js64 Jan 4th, 08, 04:22 PM Hey Jim, PM me with your phone #
thanks : Jay
vince69 Jan 4th, 08, 05:41 PM  nice garage:beers:
thedugan Jan 4th, 08, 06:57 PM Jim any chance we can get this on hd?
i think your garage needs the team camaro banner to hang in front of the ladders and stuff.
zdld17 Jan 4th, 08, 07:21 PM Jim, does your camera tell who is peeking? I notice when i log on, it tells me how many users there are peeking.
Be nice if you could sent messages across your screen there. guess thats what the chat room is for.?
JimM Jan 4th, 08, 07:56 PM ok Don, you can breath now. She's safely off the hoist and on the stand. Damn it's nice to have that stand out of there, have some room to work now!
Got a full day of cleaning left to do, the motor and underneath the car.
I am SO done with oil leaks! :(
JimM Jan 4th, 08, 07:57 PM and no, I get the sam thing you do, just how many. 4 right now
keypilot Jan 5th, 08, 08:52 AM please stick a rag or something in the intake, i am always paranoid about something falling in there.

LMAO... Intake and heads are coming off, as soon as I clean and stash enough parts to make room on the bench for them. If anything falls in, I'll fish it out later.
No parka, furnace hanging from the ceiling, up and to your left.
Figured I'd put this back in so no one has to go back to the beginning:
If you want to see my garage and my cars, and possibly even catch me working out there...
Jim's Garage cam (http://71.194.154.8:12000)
user = team
p/w = camaro
It will want you to OK the install of an avtiveX control or two, and then the video, camera controls, and possibly even audio will come up!
stevo camaro Jan 5th, 08, 12:33 PM I was going to put my shop cam on here too. I didn't cause you would'nt see any camaros, they're in bed for the winter. Come summer, I'll post the link. All you could see right now is the 57 post. The caddy & boat, and the 77 T/A sitting in the snow.
JimM Jan 5th, 08, 01:53 PM I gotta bunch of stuff cleaned and put away this morning. My ratty old small block is looking pretty good now.
Cam was locked up fora while but is up again.
Had to help the wife with a lil project, but now it's back to cleaning parts!
thorpe67RS Jan 5th, 08, 02:08 PM Actually this thread has motivated me to get my shop done. I have begun picking away at it. Just been waiting for it to warm up a bit. In the big redesign i have to redo the heat as well. So right now there is no heat in there.
And it sounds like youre in your shop working and now i cant get the camera to load for some reason.
Everett#2390 Jan 5th, 08, 03:00 PM Yep, asks if I spelled it correctly.
JimM Jan 5th, 08, 04:13 PM ok... my network has been hinky all day, but I reset a bunch of stuff, and it all seems to be working now. Cam is back online.
I"ll get to see it someday. It always times out connecting to your IP.

And to top it off I can't even see car parts little lone a car.
Come on what kinda garage porn is this.;)
I shouldn't really talk though. You've done more on your garage and car in the last month than I've done in the last 8. But the house is just about done except the garage and lower level.:(
HarleyD67 Jan 5th, 08, 11:17 PM PS- Thanks for the nite light.:hurray:

Kev
Jonesy Jan 6th, 08, 06:14 AM same here
JimM Jan 6th, 08, 06:23 AM Make sure you use the new link from this page, or the previous page. The link on page1 won't work.
Firefox won't work. use explorer
Protected object error means it didn't like the user name or password, if team camaro (all lower case, it matters) doesn't work, try watch me .
Once you're in past the password, it'll want you to load an active x control (first time viewers only) sometimes this hides in a tan bar at the top of the explorer window, click on it, say ok.
Good morning everyone! we had a GOOD TIME IN CHAT LAST NIGHT.

Jim,
I have been in there before no problem...and use the new link :) I know the password also but it would not take it. Anyway..I got in a short time ago only to see you in your blue bathrobe (yuck) after expecting a view of engine work :) being done. Hey....where are the dancing girls
Kev
thorpe67RS Jan 6th, 08, 07:55 AM Wow..i finally had a Jim sighting on the cam a few minutes ago. First time ive actually seen any life in the shop in the few times ive popped in to see. It was a quick glimpse. What were you getting out of the cabinet/closet anyway? :D I feel like i spotted bigfoot in his natural habitat or something. :D
JimM Jan 6th, 08, 07:56 AM LMAO... you guys could at least wait til I get dressed!
2x67rs/ss Jan 6th, 08, 09:01 AM :hurray:Hey Jim I can see again now go out and get to work! Last time I was able to view you had the motor on the floor. Now I see the intake is off you will have it back in in no time at this rate.
2x67rs/ss Jan 6th, 08, 09:26 AM Hey your working! Its the first time I actually saw you working. Now I have to go get to work too. Nice enough out today to take the lights off the house and then start file fitting some rings.
click Jan 6th, 08, 09:30 AM 1030am Sunday, got right in, HEY JIMBO :D
Everett#2390 Jan 6th, 08, 09:49 AM Good connection. Need some pitbabes to clean, maybe. More audience then.
Maybe use them to show the items you have for sale...........
dreamweaver Jan 6th, 08, 11:16 AM I'm watching you type on your laptop... in other words, I think I'm making a post about you making a post. Is this the Twilight Zone or what? :D

JimM Jan 6th, 08, 11:22 AM Having a blast here guys.
Hey you guys on the cam are my witnesses. Valvetrain came off and went immediately into labelled sealed ziplocs. So far on the odd side, all the lifters are perfect!
Vintage 68 Jan 6th, 08, 11:43 AM Looks like it was running rich ... :D
JimM Jan 6th, 08, 11:53 AM ya think?
Maybe a lil, I didn't raelly try to dial in that 800 afb...
Only thing I see wierd is that pison 7 is almost perfectly clean, especially around the edges. All the chambers look the same, all the plugs looked the same, but the top of that one piston is clean enough to eat off of.
I wanna get the cam out, but I'm running out of space to put stuff! Guess I'll hafta clean and put away some stuff.
Geezer Jan 6th, 08, 12:15 PM OK, who keeps getting obsessed with the lava lamp?.. Someone getting mesmerized and having flashbacks??? ;)

Hummm - is there any spot on the head gasket that a little water was seeping in?
A clean cylinder is usually the sign that a little "Steam-Cleaning" was going on in it during operation ...
Wouldn't matter if it was the head, as you're replacing them (aren't you?) but I would also look the cylinder bore over for any damage if the head-gasket looks okay.
Let us know what ya find
Acidburn Jan 6th, 08, 12:51 PM aha! finally got it to work
cleaning head bolts?
SixtyAte Jan 6th, 08, 02:14 PM Jim..
Watching you have a cig and typing on the laptop while I am on the phone with Sears.com :(
Kev
Larry B Jan 6th, 08, 02:18 PM hay Jim can you put #7 on the cam I'm thinking Steam-Cleaning

Larry
68DaveV Jan 6th, 08, 02:27 PM Well, I wanted to see where your at with the project, but when I try to move the cam to look, someone keeps moving it back to you typing and having a smoke. Don't really need to see that. :D

JimM Jan 6th, 08, 02:39 PM Here's #7
Most of em are pretty clean, but that one is a lotta clean. I'll post a pic tonight.
For now, my family is revolting (tho I should keep my personal problems to myself...lol.)
They tell me my cam is sucking up all our bandwidth!
And they want me to shut it down.
Show's over for today anyway, bye bye all, thanks for helping today!
2x67rs/ss Jan 8th, 08, 08:11 PM Hey Jim just checked in and found you hard at work! My wife thinks we are weirdos for watching you. Tonight I was moving the camera around following you and she says "leave the poor guy alone!" LOL
2x67rs/ss Jan 8th, 08, 08:13 PM Cool I see your boxing up the heads. Did you sell em? My wife says its pretty bad that if I am not working on mine I am watching you work on yours!
Gary L Jan 8th, 08, 08:50 PM So is it still working? I can not logon to it.
JimM Jan 8th, 08, 08:54 PM So is it still working? I can not logon to it.

HarleyD67 Jan 8th, 08, 09:01 PM Sure the web page finally loads up instead of an error message and there's no one home.:boring:
clwilcox33 Jan 8th, 08, 09:10 PM First time it ever connected successfully for me too.

Judging by the number of posts, you must have hot bikini babes working on your Camaro...LOL! ;)
Freddy Mercado Jan 9th, 08, 05:26 PM It does not work for me. I have tried several times over several days, no good!!!!
JimM Jan 9th, 08, 05:43 PM I turned it off last night around 9 central, it's not on now.
Maybe later... Gotta do the dishes, then sew some patches on Brians cub scout vest...
thedugan Jan 9th, 08, 05:50 PM =... Gotta do the dishes, then sew some patches on Brians cub scout vest...
Is this the sacrifices so you can go out to the garage?
JimM Jan 9th, 08, 06:35 PM Is this the sacrifices so you can go out to the garage?
Exactly! and the sacrifices are done, I'm out there now, and the camera is back on.
Those of you who'd rather watch me than work on your own cars, tune in.
The rest of you, go find a wrench!
Gary L Jan 9th, 08, 06:41 PM That's a good kid you have Jim, out there with you in the garage!
SixtyAte Jan 9th, 08, 07:09 PM Yikes...
A lit cig in one hand and spraying brake clean on a rag.... POOF
Be careful there Jim... :)
Kev
justincat Jan 9th, 08, 07:25 PM ha, ha this is great
MCGOO Jan 9th, 08, 07:36 PM Geez Jim, looks like you're doing a bang up job there on that cylinder head.
Maybe I should send my cylinder head to you to do some tinkering with :D
Paul :beers:
shoddy_F-body Jan 9th, 08, 07:38 PM It does not work for me. I have tried several times over several days, no good!!!!
Doesn't work with Mozilla Firefox browser.Make sure your using Internet Explorer.
JimM Jan 9th, 08, 08:03 PM ok, well that was big fun. After over half an hour to get the keepers off of one lousy vale, I sure could use one of them air powered valve spring compressors the pro's use.
After careful examination, I've come to the conclusion the the professionals who built these heads are a heck of a lot better at it than lil ole me, and how dare I question thier quality control!
That valve and seat is flat gorgeous, and perfect. I think someone may have warned me about this, but the seals have to come off to mess with the shims, and I'm sure the installed hts and pressures are perfect anyway.
With a lil help from above, I hope to get that valve spring back on.
I will then declare those new heads to be perfect in every way, set them aside, and bolt them on the engine as soon as I get some gaskets.
Was an interesting excercise. I will manage to check cam to rod, and piston to valve clearance, and degree the new cam.
2x67rs/ss Jan 9th, 08, 08:45 PM Jim I love to watch the smile on your face while your having fun in the shop. Nice chunk of aluminum sitting on your bench!
