Not to be a whiner; I joined about a week ago may be its the holidays, maybe its where I am putting my post. I have 7 hits on my welcome wagon the guy who dug a hole in his back yard has 400. Not to be mean or any thing, may be I'm jealous but I paid $34.95 to talk about my camaros and other peoples camaros, theirs and my questions and answers. I know there are other things in life not just camaros,JUST ASK MY WIFE..Don't get me wrong there are a few posts like the garage pictures that are very cool that I like alot, some real nice camaros, and some nice projects going on, but where am I going wrong here. Do you have to be on a buddy list to talk about cars or where am I just looking in the wrong places.I know this is all about friends and people gettig along, but if this is what you realy want tell OPRAH. If I dont get a little more response than a 7 for what I got on my welcome wagon I guess I will just stick to my friends I already have all two fo them. Here are some pictures of my project and ther are more in my welcome wagon. May be I just need to be a litle more patient.................Dave

Dave, welcome to the site.....dont get frustrated. It is nice to here someone wants to talk about cars. You have to admit the 400 post about the nuclear train track found in his back yard is funny.

PS.....You have a nice ride.

Dave...

Its where you post and the subject you type up. As an example, I very seldom go into the Welcome Wagon section. Being the holidays, many members are not online or simply spending little time here. The post with 400 hits is an on going thing we all are fooling with. Many of us have been here for years posting and years lurking and gathering it all in :) We have nothing against any "Dave" members :Dand answer as many posts as we can in a given day. If you want to search info, use the Search feature at the top of your screen here on TC. Just remember, we all are here because we love the hobby and enjoy talking about it...so don't feel left out. BTW..nice car you have there ! I love a tubbed out first gen...

Welcome Dave, nice car. Did you do all the work yourself? Don't take the neglect to personal, once things start clickin you'll find there is a great bunch hear willing to help with most anything. You're bound to get a response (or none) sometimes that maybe irks you the wrong way but that's life, just hang in there.

Dave, yer right, try not to whine....lol, just kidding.

It is generally kinda slow around here during the holidays, as well as on weekends. And like anywhere else, it all takes time. Most tech questions from anyone get lots of answers fairly quickly. The welcome wagon posts, well some do some don't, no idea why. Some of it has to do with how a person "comes off" and sometimes this is hard in a text box. (If that was a factor with you, I'd probably "know it" and I don't, so don't take that personal.)

As for Joe's backyard, that thread is 3 or 4 years old, and we had a lot of fun with it at the time. Every once ina while, some wiseguy (often me) dredges it back up. He hates it when we do that, but it's all in fun. He's one of our mods, a great friend to many, and is a middle aged military reservist who is currently serving our county in the middle east (while his wife and kids spend it here, without him.)

This is a very social place. Many of us have become good friends over the years, both online and offline. This all takes time of course. It's pretty obvious you've built youirself a killer car, and also obvious that you have a lot to add to this place. It's also obvious that you have the means to pay someone to do it, but made the choice to do it yourself. I have a tremendous respect for that.

So sit back, relax, answer the questions you can and ask the questions you need answered, and the rest will all fall into place before long. You do after all have some catching up to do. Many of us have been here for many many years. I tend to come off "a lil strong" sometimes, and in the beginning, this certainly was not the best way to make friends and influence people. Today of course, they all know me and me and know what to expect.

To recall my military days, think of this place like the base autoshop attached to the enlisted mens club. In the shop, there's always someone to lend a hand or loan a wrench. At the bar, it takes just a bit longer.

Dave, welcome to Team Camaro and it is a slower time with the holidays now on all boards on the net. The different sections deal with those specific issues, Interior, Elec., Body, etc. When you have questions in those area, post away and you will get replies in time. Remember this is a real time site, no paid people to sit and make sure you get a reply in a certain time too. Its all volunteer and believe me, if you post enough and folks get to know you, then you will appreciate the Bench section more where we get silly and actually get away from Camaro talk to yak about what we BBQ and greet our friends and complain about anything at times. The backyard buried treasure is over 3 years old and one of our moderators HwyStar Joe found a piece of 'something' buried in his yard and it was a hoot trying to figure out what it was, we never did and he covered it over for another day... BUT more importantly he is in Iraq right now serving our country so we enjoy keeping him in our minds and spirits for when he gets a chance to post here from Iraq. By bringing up his old post we hope to give him something laugh at and share with his buddies in Iraq too. It is about friendship that most of us hang around here so much. Many of us have met at car shows and traveled thousands of miles to meet up and enjoy our Camaros and shake the hands of those we visit with here. It is a Camaro site but most of us enjoy the comaradare' of the friends we make here. You are one of the new kids in the sandbox and we welcome you to enjoy it with us. Take time to read the posts in Bench, even if they are not about Camaros. You will learn about us as individuals and our personalities which can lead to long term friendships. Even our wives enjoy the stuff we talk about in here and several of our active members are ladies as well. Have your wife drop in with you on occasion and see how 'those other guys are just like you' :D

Hi Dave - you're $ contribution to TC is much appreciated and will help the site grow and insure it's here in the future. I would hope your year as a registered user of the forums is what prompted you to go beyond just using the site by becoming not just a supporting member but a gold member. I'm sure I speak for everyone that cares about TC when I say thanks for helping keep the site going! :beers:

As for your welcome post, all I can say is you posted it on Sunday Dec 30th with new years about to drop on everyone, people get busy during the holidays and the forums slow down. You got several replies, take a look there are guys that posted before you and haven't gotten any replies yet.

Give the guys time to get to know you, keep helping others and asking for help when you need it. Participate in some of the small talk threads to show others you are interested in them. Give it some time and you'll find you have a lot of friends here.

As for your age, you fall right in with most of us here so stop questioning yourself and enjoy your car and what ever else you are into without worrying about what others think!

First off..welcome! I myself very seldom go to the welcome wagon section. But hang in there..i have never had a question that has not been able to be answered on here. As mentioned above..posts specific questions in the appropriate sections and youll find great response. I enjoy sharing my knowledge and experience (although way more limited than many on here) whenever i see a chance to help out. Owning a first gen and being active on this site go hand and hand. I cant imagine one without the other.
Nice Car by the way!!

Welcome! And yes, stop whining. j/k :).

And besides the holidays........it's also winter for the vast majority of members (in U.S.) and many can't or don't drive their cars. Therefore, a lot of folks entomb their cars in the colder climates for hibernation. Others.....find perfect winter projects to work on. And still, others......don't have optimal conditions to do work on their 1st gens at this time of year.

And the fact is, most are most enthused and active when "it's all going on", which is during warmer months. At least, that's my humble opinion.

Stick around. You can't beat the value of the wisdom that abounds here. If you want guaranteed companionship for a fee...downtown Atlanta might be a good place to visit ;)

1. What is important to you...may not be important to others.
2. Don't internalize lack of replies as a direct insult. It's not.
3. This isn't like a free legal service where you are guaranteed resolutions to your problems...or responses to your statements. We are all just average Joes who happen to share something in common....but we owe each other nothing.
4. Members gravitate toward "stupid gossip posts" when they are bored, or when it "strikes a chord" with them.

After joining, I was working on my car and ran into an "emergency" (in my mind). OMG, nobody replied within 10 mins and I PAID MONEY TO JOIN!!!! And then I realized.........all my brothers here have real lives...and were not waiting by their PCs to see if good old Kev had a problem while working on his car that day. After all, I hadn't even warned everyone that I would be working on my car. And then it hit me! This is a website where fellow members WILL help you...when they can...and if they have knowledge about your problem...and they're able to respond at that particular moment in time. And that all these factors might diminish my expectations for an immediate response to MY time of need. And then...I felt a sudden calm come over me...and a beam of light entered the room. For this....this was reality!

First off - Welcome to Team CAMARO :hurray:
(and a special 'thank you' for joining as a supporting member  )
I usually try to skim through the "Welcome Forum" to see who's signed on and how close they are to my area. I will admit, I've been slightly remiss lately of doing this on a regular basis - I'll get back to it ...
Please take every opportunity to attend local shows (with or without your car) and talk with fellow 'team' guys in your area. You wouldn't meet a better group of guys and will probably develope some great friendships - I know I and others have :beers:
Nice car, for a '69 ;) - looks like you've done some fine work
Hope you enjoy the site and welcome your input in the forums!

I go to the the cruise night at the Glen Burnie Mall a couple times a year...twice last year with the Z-10. I'll look for ya in the spring.

Yes, I go to OC but the last couple times I went with my 70 Elky but since I just sold it I plan on going this spring with a Camaro...or two if I can talk the wife into driving one while I trailer the other! Again, I'll look for you there.

Ocean City is always on the calendar every year -- a little golf, a few beers :beers: and a whole lot of cars -- can't wait to bring my Camaro there in May since I just finished it a few months ago. Keep us posted on your progress and I hope you get everything done in time for OC

About twenty four hours with stripping, making the filler piece, welding the seams al lthe way around, and doing both floor drops.I left the stock wire harness hole because I used the american wire harness which is the best by the way. They will help with any questions and are very tollerant where painless doesn't. The wiper motor I used is from DSE thats pretty cool as well.I also welded up the front of the rockers to keep debris from getting in thru the cracks. I will post what I can alot of the pictures I try to send says they are already processed.. Dave

Hi Dave,
Paying a membership will not get you anymore attention here than a nonpaying member. My responses have not increased at all since I've joined the ranks of the paid membership but thats not why I chose to be a member. This forum has helped me so much over the 8 years I've been here that I felt it was the least I could do ( besides I like the cool flag ). Don't feel slighted if you don't get a speedy response I have been around a long time and don't always get many. At least when I need help I always get help , every single time. After 8 years I only have a few friends here but I'm ok with it I don't think I'm disliked either.
Most of the talk here is just guy talk and it aint always about cars and thats cool. Tech advice when I need it and tons of bullcrap to read 24/7 . . . I love it :D
Oh ya nice ride

David be patient and welcome to the site. Despite the fact we are all Camaro enthusiasts, most of us first gen enthusiasts we have literally hundreds of different tastes or areas of interest in these cars. For example I'm not interested in convertibles, AC, automatics, 350 engines, PS, cars optioned to the moon, ect. Doesn't make any of these bad, just not something I'm into. Actually many of the first gen cars and options that I don't care for myself are very desireable and I can still appreciate them, but they aren't my cup of tea. So you'll never find me in the convertibles section, rarely in the EFI, welcome wagon, restoration sections ect. Everyone has different expectations from these cars. I am into cars that are basically original in appearance with drive trains that are a little different than most, 302, big block, stroked or destroked 400 block motors, 4 speeed, manual steering, very few options, Z28, COPO, SS or other performance models, crossrams including SY-1 Smokey Rams, old solid lifter or modern roller cams, trying to run the highest compression I can get away with on todays fuel, ect. So I will frequent performance, engine, bench racing, general and a few others. That's about the extent of my interest or needs from this site. I expect most of the guys here don't go to every topic either.

Also don't get discouraged because you get little response to a post. I've had several that get little or no response. Some of those have been topics that I'm very passionate about, but I understand also that what I want in a first gen is often something very different than the majority of first gen enthusiasts. But I don't get discouraged by it, everyone is just looking for different experiences out of their cars.

I'll help you all that I can when I do run across a post that is of interest to me and I know you and the others here will do the same. But I wouldn't expect everyone to be interested in all or many of my topics. Again welcome and enjoy the great bunch of people who frequent this site and I'm sure you'll find in time that there is no other Camaro site on the web that comes close to how professional and decent the guys and gals are here on Team Camaro. You will also make some friendships here, even I have made some friendships here with some really great people I wouldn't have met had it not been for Team Camaro!

Calligan, the two areas that you mentioned (WW and BR) are two of the least technical sections of this board.

I never looked in the Bench section until probably over a year after joining TC. It's a miscellaneous section, a place to BS with other TCers, that's all.

The Chat used to be another good place to BS around with other guys. Whatever happened to that? I blame buckmiz :D

Hi ya Dave...I don't think that you'll be sorry in the long run for joining...just try to find a more informative site on the Camaro... if you do, let us know!

As pointed out... you do have to know where to look or where to post your questions and your seeking help. Have you bothered to check out the archieves? There is a wealth of info in there by guys who have beaten the path before you.

Not to come up with excuses... but it has been a the holiday season, and have our plates full in more ways than one.

Finally, this site is more than just a "I got a question fer ya" or where can I get this?" If you have ever belonged to a car club... you know that guys/gals will talk more than about cars.

You got a question... ask it...there's more skilled guys on this site that you can shake a stick at.

I agree. I try to check in daily and just hit "new Posts" and am able to check all threads for new posts. If there is one that I am following, I check in a couple times a day and follow it.
I find it interesting that we all seem to use this site differently and all get so much out of posts, whether they are Camaro based or otherwise.
I resolve to get out in my cars more next year and try to meet some of these helpful folks. Not only have they helped with wheel-based probs, but some have helped talk people through the real world we all encounter.

Thanks to all and have a happy and HEALTHY New Year.

Jerry I doubt it will happen. There are plenty of those sites out there for those that want to spend time with them. We have to keep this site in a manner that nobody at work or home can get in trouble over if a boss or spouse sees the screen.

Yes it was a run-on sentence, and I think you're name should be spelled "Dave"; but then it's your name so.... :D I'm just kidding btw. Think of all the unrelated topic replies in this thread as keeping it alive ;)

Welcome in Dave - nice ride. I myself never go in the welcome wagon - rude of me I suppose. But the site is a riot lots more than just Camaro's - Camaro friends.

This is a pretty cool place to hang out ,I guess I was just spotting a little the other day due to daylight savings short days, holidays, and not being able to work on my car due to the cold weather.I promise I'l be a better tream member from here on out. This is a little off subject but to see how TC will respond. I know I'm not suposed to talk about any thing but camaros lol. To take my mind off my car I started working with my son, check out some of the pictures of the gym I built. This took about a year or more to build.

Do you think you have enough curl and pull-down bars?

After a few years of amassing equipment in my basement....I realized I really only needed one piece; a rack! But I do have a tower and a treadmill :). I sold my bench set, smith machine, and some other stuff. The rack is the best bang for your buck. Working out is the single best thing I decided to do about 6yrs ago. I had arthroscopic surgery done on both shoulders (Aug & Nov), and I'm "rehabbing" with 3 workouts per week currently. But I'll be back to a 5 day split in no time ;)

Its realy hard to go in there when you get home from 8 hrs work in the cold. I'm going to try do a four day split probably missing three of the four. Most of the time when I go there its passing thru to get in my paint booth the door behind the power rack.

You have to make it a priority. If you don't.....you might just as well never touch them. It took me nearly a year to actually get to the point of looking forward to working out. It can "interfere" with family dinners and other things, but it CAN be done. Fortunately, I have a home business/office...so I can easily work it in every scheduled day. Truly, it becomes a way of life. I'll be 50 later this year, and I feel better... and I'm stronger than at any other time in my life. And my 2 sons are nipping at my heals! LOL. OK, enough :)

Welcome to hot rod hell Dave, Once your in your doomed to forever enjoy and envy, oggle and generally get roused for one thing or another. But on a positive note. We were all interested in giving Joe crud about his backyard finds.. A running joke if you will that will forever live on.
