I was wondering if someone could help me ID or at least narrow down this old Q-Jet? I'm guessing that it's mid 60s vintage but I don't think the base plate is correct. It also has a number "355" stamped in the aft L/H corner of the base plate which might be a date code but I'm no expert. Any thoughts are appreciated.

there should be a number on the carb running up and down that will probably start with a 70*****. That number will make it easy to decode. If it '60-ish, the number might start with something else. Someone else will probably chime in will more specifics, just try and pull any numbers off the carb you can and where you got them from (location on carb).

The i.d. number is stamped in not raised up. Late 67 on had the numbers stamped vertically on the drivers side above the secondary throttle shaft. Earlier carbs had the numbers on an aluminum tag pressed onto the drivers side front of the carb.

edit: I just looked at picture # http://i40.photobucket.com/albums/e232/Lintmann/P1010007.jpg and there's no number where you really need one. There's also no aluminum tag pressed into the ring on the left front corner either. That makes it really tough to identify for sure. You may be able to narrow it down by seeing what it has for a needle and seat, but I'll bet it has been through a commercial rebuilder and even the original needle and seat has been updated.

FWIW, it looks like one that came on the 67 275 horsepower Caprice I had years ago.

I think Jon might be right, looks like it's been worked over. I've got a 68 275 hp and it looks the same. 355 probably is the date code.

Thanks guys. Yes that's the tough part...no round ID plate... It does have the older needle and seat so I guess it's before the change-over sometime in 67 but other than that I'm at a loss.

I could post casting numbers and location if that will help to narrow it down. Does the throttle plate look correct for this carb? I always thought that the threaded vacuum port at the rear was a 70s thing but maybe I'm wrong.

I don't suppose those round ID disks are reproduced yet either are they? I guess that's a moot point anyways if I can't ID it.

Thanks guys,

Greg
