I'm thinking about buying the 383 extreme engine from Smeding Performance. Has anyone heard anything good or bad about them?

We've had a couple of his motors on the dyno. Not a real powerhouse but about average for a 383 build, 290-300 at the rear wheels. He had a batch of bad pistons for a while and the tops would flake off.

I think it was advertised as a 440 hp motor, but I've never seen a real dyno sheet. Once you get a mismatched exhaust system and some accessories on the engine your power will be down considerably.
