: Beef up plate under quarter panel
67CruiseMasterCamaro Jun 28th, 04, 05:51 AM I have noticed that there is a beef up plate of some sort under my quarter panel on one side of my car. It is located where the transition from the part beside the trunk lid opening to the sail panel. Its flat with some flanging on the edges. What is this plate for, and does it need to be there?
William Jun 28th, 04, 01:40 PM You have sharp eyes.
The plate has some purpose. There is a wad of foam insulation between it and the quarter panel suggesting it is there to dampen vibration; the "tinny" sound when closing a door or the trunk lid. It is routinely not replaced when new panels are installed by an average bodyman.
There is another reinforcement usually left out, at the juncture of the roof/quarter panel at the roof rail.
67CruiseMasterCamaro Jun 28th, 04, 03:29 PM William, do you happen to have a picture of that other reinforcement? I would love to see it, so I know what I am looking for when I search for it. I have a donor car, and I think it is on there, as I will be removing the quarters on my car soon.

William Jun 28th, 04, 03:55 PM It is very tough to see. Lift the rear flap on the quarter glass sealing strip and you can see where it is welded to the roof rail.
Brian Schein Jun 28th, 04, 04:53 PM Scott, do you plan on using the quarters off the donor car. If not I need a piece of a original quarter from the drivers side. I have been searching high and low and had no luck her is a pic of the right side I need the left.
I have those plates you are talking about removed from my car right now I will take I pic and post it for you tomorrow.

67CruiseMasterCamaro Jun 29th, 04, 09:01 AM Brian, which piece do you need? Is it the one cut out from one of your pictures? I have that piece for the left on my donor car. No right side, the quarter is gone. But I will be replacing both left and right quarters on my car soon, if you aren't in a hurry, I can cut it out when I take the quarter off. If you are interested in my proposal, email me, then I will have your address handy when it comes time. Hopefully next month when my quarters arrive.
Click, I have the one for the left. I need one for the right. You have one to spare?
William, are you talking about the one that is located in the corner of the quarter panel where it meets the sail panel? I have one for the left, but not the right. I am wondering how hard it would be to make one. If anyone has one of these as a spare, I could use it rather than make one. I beleive this small piece of metal is for wind sealing for the window rubber channel.
click Jun 29th, 04, 09:13 AM sorry I have no spare body parts at all, I dont weld or hammer or do any of that. I have a few intakes lol

It also needs to be cut a lot lager so I can trim it to fit. Don’t cut anything yet I would like to talk to you on the phone so I could explain exactly what I need.
