: Red Hocky Stripe
dreamweaver Jan 3rd, 08, 06:35 PM Was a red hockey stripe an option for a 69?

Microgiant Jan 3rd, 08, 06:43 PM I read just black or white was available for 69. But im no expert.
dreamweaver Jan 3rd, 08, 06:47 PM That's what I thought too. The description of the ad makes it "seem" like the car is semi-pseudo-partially-completely correct. But I never saw a red HS before. That's what I was curious.
camaromaniac Jan 3rd, 08, 06:51 PM Wow, those videos sure are fun! Don't know about the availability of a Red SS hockey stripe as opposed to the White one, but what a fun car! Is that a stock steering wheel? You would think they would have mandated a factory tach in that baby! Charlie 69 RS/SS & 69 RS
guccieng Jan 3rd, 08, 06:52 PM this is from crg:
1969: Cortez Silver and Dover White coupes with Red interior and D90, DX1, or D96 stripe (not Z28) and without vinyl top received a Red stripe.

clill Jan 3rd, 08, 10:23 PM I had a Burgundy with factory red hockey stripes.
BlackoutSteve Jan 4th, 08, 02:46 AM I wasn't long ago that I saw this car for sale on eBay. Maybe 2 or 3 years ago
I'm pretty sure it's the same one. Same price too.
Are there any doubts about it's authenticity? I really like it.
Mark C Jan 4th, 08, 03:44 AM Since the trim tag says the car was originally Butternut yellow with a black vinyl top, I guess we can all assume the black paint with red stripe is not correct for this car.
BlackoutSteve Jan 4th, 08, 02:34 PM Paint code 40? Butternut Yellow?
There was no paint code of 40 in 1969 was there? None of my books show 40 as a paint code at all.
Butternut Yellow was not a 69 color. Only Daytona Yellow.
What gives?

dreamweaver Jan 4th, 08, 02:55 PM What are the D90, DX1, or D96 stripes? I was reading through that link (http://www.camaros.org/numbers.shtml#ExteriorColors ) where it discussed the stripes. In the footnotes it mentions these three options but I can't find where it describes what they are.

40 is Butternut Yellow in 69.

DDub-
D90 stripe is the Hockey Stick.
D96 stripes are the wheel arch pin stripes for 69.
DX1 stripe is the "modified bumblebee". Starts on both sides at the lower fender extensions like the D91 bumblebee, but as it approaches the crown of the header panel/hood, it turns, tapers, and runs back the hood on either side of the crown.
dreamweaver Jan 4th, 08, 08:26 PM Thank you Eric
Zedder Jan 4th, 08, 09:13 PM My neighbour just sent me pics of his cousin's original paint '69 L78 and it is black with a red hockey stick stripe and black guts. I have not seen the car in person to inspect it...
Mark C Jan 5th, 08, 07:45 AM 10 to 1 says his trim tag will be coded (- -) for special paint.
Zedder Jan 5th, 08, 08:00 AM I sent him an email Mark and will let you know what he says...
Ed Ernst Jan 5th, 08, 09:16 AM There is a '69 SS down the road from me that is Dover white w/ deluxe red interior and red hockey stripes. Nice looking combo.
BlackoutSteve Jan 5th, 08, 04:33 PM I have no idea why the 3 books I have don't mention the 40/Butternut yellow paint code for 69.
Must have been a rare choice. I don't think I've seen any.
dreamweaver Jan 5th, 08, 11:12 PM Anypne have a pic of the D96 Stripe --- I've never seen it
Eric Kammerer Jan 6th, 08, 07:13 AM I'm sure you have seen them. There just pinstripes that start toward the bottom of the front of each wheel opening, and then go up over the wheel and back along the body line crease. That's whay they are 69 only, because we're the only ones with the wrinkles er ahh creases.
They're not easy to see here on Jeff's vert, but...

dreamweaver Jan 6th, 08, 10:12 AM I couldn't see the striping in that link at all but I did a search (kike I should have in the first place) and found more pics of his car that shows much greater detail.

I don't think I have ever seen it until now. Maybe I have but never really paid attention to it. Sonce we're on the subject, another question I have is about applying the striping decal... do you apply the clear, then the striping, hen another coat of clear? The reason I ask is because I had my car painted, then cleared. After it was done I realized I didnt' get the striping done. Now, because of damage that was done to the car it needs to be repainted on the driver's quarter, driver's door, driver's fender, roof and passenger quarter... should I wait until it is repainted, re-cleared and then have the striping done? If so do I have it cleared over the stripe?
BillyZ11 Jan 7th, 08, 06:01 PM Are you talking about the D96 stripe? If so, it was a hand painted pinstripe. The dimensions for it are in the AIM. I don't think it would look right in a decal.?

Sorry - forgot to explain. The pin striping I was referring to is for my 67 RS. I can't remember what the name of the striping is called but it is the pin striping that goes all the way down the body of the car on a 67. Farmboy has it on his... maybe he will chime in here. He told me the procedure way back, when I was in the process of getting my body work and paint done. So much has happened since then that I forgot.. maybe I'll just call him:thumbsup:
jjgundy Jan 7th, 08, 09:03 PM I just thought that I'd add my .02 to this thread. I was at this falls Vettefest in Chicago and there was an unrestored 1969 SS/RS 396 L78 Camaro that was on display it was factory Tuxedo black with a black vinyl top with red hockey stick stripes and black hounds tooth interior. I talked to the owner and he said that it had the original paint on it and he had buffed it out to make it shine the way that is did. I'm pretty sure that the tag was a 10 B code. Check the link out to see a picture of it and some of the other great looking cars that where their. If you haven't gone to this show I strongly recommend going to either the fall or spring show they had a great line up of cars. When you go to the link you will need to click non vette and click on the arrows to get to the car that I'm talking about. There are a lot of other great cars to see while you are search for this car.

Very rare only 0.8% (according to CRG) of the 69's received that colour.
