69 coupe-mechanical windows-
I couldn't think of a good way to phrase this title. I'm getting ready to redo the inside of my doors (ie. window mechanism, door mechanism and of course de-rustifying). 2 questions:
1. What is the best way to clean the "spatter" looking material off-it looks like sound proofing or something.
2. What is the best way to proceed on this project? There's nothing wrong with the mechanical parts except maybe the window roll-up is a little sloppy. I just want to make it like new. Have you all learned hints or tips from going thru this process?

Thanks,
John

Rook,
When I was putting my doors on my 69 back together I cleaned all the tracks out of the old grease (brake parts cleaner and a steel toothbrush works well), replace any of the damaged rollers (they're soft steel and they crush with a bench vise, but don't over crush them), re-grease the tracks and assemble. My doors had that spray inside them also, I left it. I'm not sure if it's a sound deadener or some type of undercoating, but I left it in. With the new rollers and the tracks with fresh grease the windows go up and down nice and smoothly.

I just got thru with my 68 doors and there are the same as the 69 door. Here is a few thing that I did that may help you. The undercoating or sound proofing on the inside of the door can only be taken off with some type of solvent such as por-15 solvent. If you try anything that will create heat it will damage your paint on the outside of the door. You will need a tool to remove the rollers and stops, which can be got from most of the parts houses. All the leading parts house will carry the rollers for your door. Make sure your channels are straight and not bent. If you have a part cleaner, use it on the latches and regulators and use a light oil to oil them down. Most part house carrier a door glass kits that does all the roller, gaskets and stops. I tried to use the aftermarket guides and found that I could not get the door panel to line up rite so I recovered my original ones and they lined up correctly. Not a hard job, just a messy one. Good luck Jerry
