: Another Package Shelf Question
Mochatea396 Jan 5th, 08, 05:12 PM I read all the posts about package tray installation and the one question I didn't see anyone ask was what type of adhesive is best to use to glue the flap on the shelf down? I see what everyone is talking about how you can pull real tight on the flap and get a nice clean line but I think when you put the adhesive on it's never going to stay that tight until the glue sets up, so I think I'm going to leave it a little loose. Also, the divider board behind the rear seat...does that go on after or before the package shelf? I'm assuming after, but we all know about assumptions, so I figured I'd ask. Thanks again
brendan 67 Jan 5th, 08, 05:51 PM Hi.Ive used a brush on high temp resistant glue on mine.Brush glue on both surfaces, let it dry for 2 to 4 minutes then pull tight and stick down.Sticks very well.Hope this helps.
Mochatea396 Jan 5th, 08, 05:55 PM Thanks Brendan, do you know who made the glue you used and where can I get it?
Lucky68 Jan 5th, 08, 05:56 PM I used the 3M spray adhesive which worked good. Just spray it on the vinyl edge and then some on where it will adhere to. Let it tack up for a few minutes, then pull tight. I had to trim the corners of the vinyl to get it to look right. You're correct about the divider board. It goes on after the package tray. It just hangs off of the three seat back hooks.
Unreal Jan 5th, 08, 07:09 PM I used 3M, too, but you could use any contact adhesive.
Old Man Jan 6th, 08, 11:46 PM I put the divider in before the package tray and didn't use any adhesive, the seat back will press against the flap and hold it tight.

I did the same and it worked out fine. Who said an adhesive was necessary?

Mike , was it 3M Super 77 ?
69 Bowtie Jan 10th, 08, 09:01 PM I put the divider in before the package tray and didn't use any adhesive, the seat back will press against the flap and hold it tight.
Same here, nice and tight no issues.
Lucky68 Jan 11th, 08, 05:37 AM Mike , was it 3M Super 77 ?
Jason,
No, I just used the General Trim adhesive you can pick up at the local parts store. It's the same stuff I used to glue down my headliner edges and sail panel material to the boards. No complaints so far.
scruys Jan 13th, 08, 07:44 PM Jason,
I have to chime in with the no adhesive route. I just installed mine and I had enough vinyl material that I cut a slot in the three places where the vinyl overlaps the seatback hooks and just pulled it snug over the hooks. With the seatback in place it looks fine. If you want to see a pic or two let me know and I'll let you see what it looks like before you decide which way to go.

Unreal Jan 14th, 08, 09:38 AM FWIW, I have seen a couple of unmolested rear package trays, and they were pulled tight over the little cardboard strip. So tight that it was not "cushy" from the foam backing. You could distinctly see the corners of the strip.
