View Full Version : TC we have PT wheres the Pro Street
david calligan Jan 6th, 08, 07:36 AM No biggy, but as you can see from some of my posts I might be a red neck about Pro Street. Is there any need for the pro street lover anymore,am I out dated to old give me pro street or give me death. Any replies HOLLA BACK YO.
camcojb Jan 6th, 08, 10:24 AM most the pro street guys hang in the performance forum.
Jody
Teetoe_Jones Jan 7th, 08, 12:37 PM I'm pretty sure the Pro-Street forum is located in the year 1992. Got a time machine?
J/K by the way, not looking to start a PT vs PS thread.
Tyler
400bird Jan 7th, 08, 10:02 PM I'm pretty sure the Pro-Street forum is located in the year 1992.
Thats funny.
I have nothing against pro street either just refer something else
68rs406 Jan 7th, 08, 10:10 PM Pro street is a heads up racing class, anything else is poser street......
Pro touring is just the next fad to go out of style.....
;):D J/K, to each thier own.
fotoboy Jan 7th, 08, 10:31 PM ill second a Prostreet section! Pay homage to all the prostreet, we are where is all came from!
DougP Jan 8th, 08, 06:07 AM Hey - I believe there is still a place for Pro Street and we should consider a section, or at the very least, some discussion on the topic -- I happen to still like that style car, and if you check my signature, you'll see I used to own one. It was fast and a lot of fun to drive (around town only!)
69ProTouring Jan 8th, 08, 08:04 AM I think pro-street is cool. If a car is cool, it's cool, no matter what its purpose is.
Pro-touring/g-machines isn't a fad, it's just the modern term for hot rodding. Doing EFI swaps, adding overdrive transmissions, and making a car fun to drive will never go out of style. :)
68rs406 Jan 8th, 08, 10:01 AM I think pro-street is cool. If a car is cool, it's cool, no matter what its purpose is.
I 100% agree with that, make model or type cool is cool
However I don't really care for poser cars though, 13 second pro street cars with a tube chassis and pro touring cars with 22" rims that look like a matchbox car, but thats just my opinion.
As for the Pro touring / fad thing, pro street was modern hot rodding too in the 80's, crazy paint and straight axles were modern hot rodding in the 60's, imports are modern hot rodding of current times arguably, I still call 'em a fad. To me if it's not stock appearing it's going to fall into the fad category eventually.
They all may have started out as something real to begin with, but when it became one guy trying to have bigger tubs and wider tires or wheels that are unrealistically big, or for that matter when the phrase "pro street" or "pro touring", "G machine" or whatever was coined, it became a fad IMO.
But hey, if all our cars looked the same, what fun would that be?
david calligan Jan 8th, 08, 02:23 PM I am glad there are some of us still alive. Prostreet just catches my eye more than pro touring. If I want to tour I'l by a late model:yes: for a lot less than what I put in my junk.I guess will mark this down to different strokes. Lets go PROSTREETERS and get a pro street forum:hurray: I would be in there all the time.:thumbsupI think my posts would go up to three a day.
cluxford Jan 8th, 08, 02:40 PM Can you have both ?
I love Prostreet...really love it....but it's hard to register a PS car in Australia.
I also love Pro-touring....
So I compromised.
I'm building a 68 Camaro
632 BBC (over 800Hp) - may get blown later
Minitubbed (28" Diameter 325 drag radials on rear)
17" billet rims
13" Disc brakes all round
4 Link coilover rear
Art Morrison from sub frame
Interior will be all leather 4 buckets and yeah it will have power steering, air con and a stereo.
Is it a Pro-Stour ?
class67 Jan 8th, 08, 07:00 PM Everybody, just drive / build what you like and who cares who likes it or doesn't. Who are you building it for anyway? I Personally am a PT person for the looks, you can turn and they are fast as well. Hell, you can even go fast in a turn...lol. I wouldn't object (at all) to a pro-street forum, just might not be for everybody, just as PT is not for everybody. Point being...it's yours, do what you like with it!!!
P.S. Pro-Touring is not a fad!
david calligan Jan 8th, 08, 08:35 PM Everybody has there ruthers I'd ruther see Prostreet and I was just wondering if there would be the posability that a direct link would be available. Sit a prostreet and a protouring next to one another and see what happens. So I ask this question wheres the prostreet forum. If any car lover agrees let me know.
class67 Jan 8th, 08, 09:27 PM ^^Not wanting get into a pissing match here but; that is a pretty bold statement. there are plenty of very high HP TT (under the hood) cars that i'm sure would not flinch at the site of a pro-street car.
fotoboy Jan 8th, 08, 09:55 PM Give me any high hp pt car and i will alway beat them out of the hole. I have never been beat by a drag radial pt car frum dig. now frum roll is another story but where is the skils in that? I love them both but I would def love a prostreet link as well!
69ProTouring Jan 9th, 08, 06:52 AM Has the definition of pro-street evolved? Back in the day, anything that was back-halfed with a big block was, to me, a pro-street build. I'm curious if the hardcore pro-street guys have their own definition. The use of new technology have put the 10.5" tire guys deep into the 8's and even quicker.
Not looking for an arguement, just a good discussion. :beers:
68rs406 Jan 9th, 08, 10:18 AM Scott, thats my point exactly, I feel like pro street as a trend was the same as Pro touring as a trend is today, again, no slam on either I just don't care for either type that's built as a poser. Tubbed cars that are slow and pro tour cars with HUGE wheels (a 22" wheel doesn't make a Camaro handle better than a 17", therefore it's only the look they are going for IMO, and they are "posing")
I don't care for Pro street as the fad myself either, as I said Pro street to me is a heads up racing class.
I actually am involved with outlaw 10.5 drag racing, thats probably why I feel the way I do, you say pro street and people think a useless tubbed car of the 80's.
And by the way real "pro street" cars are going low 6's at over 230mph currently, and we have gone 7.30's at over 180 in our outlaw 10.5 car :D
I was just poking fun anyway, no offense to anyone either way, to each their own, but I do have my opinion on both types as do most car guys I imagine. :beers:
68rs406 Jan 9th, 08, 11:16 AM Oh, and for a reference, this is a real pro street car;
http://www.precisionturbo.net/ART/2007cars/SpiroPappas.jpg
Spiro Pappas' 69 Camaro, 6.79 @ 212 on a 10.5 tire, who's needs big tubs anyway? :D
69ProTouring Jan 9th, 08, 11:54 AM Now THAT is getting it done! Awesome pic and ET. http://www.lateral-g.net/forums/images/smilies/bow.gif
7.30's on a 10.5 tire. That's just incredible.
And for the record, I totally agree with the 22" wheel statement. It's the extremes of anything that always get the attention and, unfortunately, become the 'stereotype' for the way people see some things.
68rs406 Jan 9th, 08, 12:01 PM And for the record, I totally agree with the 22" wheel statement. It's the extremes of anything that always get the attention and, unfortunately, become the 'stereotype' for the way people see some things.
Thats exactly my thoughts as well, cars that get it done no matter what the style are cool period  . Even some of the imports we have raced with in outlaw and some in pro are just bad to the bone, definitely not my thing but credit is definitely due. When it becomes a car show fad is when the real intent gets lost IMO. :beers:
Oh yeah, thanks for the compliments  . We are switching the motor program this year to twin turbo alcohol smallblock, the 7.30's were with a nitrous big block, we decided to go turbos to try to keep up with guys like Pappas with that sweet Camaro above, his car is wicked fast especially for a pretty stock appearing car.

10.5 class tires are bigger that you think, there is more rubber on the ground than my 16.5x31x15
77wolf10.85 Jan 9th, 08, 07:35 PM I bought my car because I recognized I was stupid enough to spend a lot of money playing with cars, and with the way I work I knew I would never be able to complete a car. I told everybody, "this is a gawdy sumbitch I'm gonna buy and we may have to do something about it". First time I saw the gawdy bastard I was in love. First time I drove it I about peed my pants. I told everybody "We ain't changin ****". I don't care if somebody doesn't like my paint, or my stickers, or my 18 1/2" slicks, my 3 1/2" exhaust and electric cutouts or anything else. I like wolf and that's all there is to it, I don't need to call him Prostreet or fit any other label, he's wolf and he's mine and I don't need anybody to understand:D
Rodder Jan 9th, 08, 07:53 PM I just had an idea for a PT vs PS event... get a bunch of each to meet up at a road coarse, spend the day road racing (probably solo and comparing lap times?). The next day, caravan to nearest drag strip and spend the rest of the day drag racing. All cars must be street legal and complete all three events. Tire changes, suspension adjustments, and tuning are allowed, but otherwise run-what-you-brung.
Or has then been done before?

My local friends with pro-street cars are running seriously large rubber, 33x17 or 33x18, I can't remember. I know it dead hooks though! I've taken some killer wheelstand videos. :D

Dude, I cant go faster than 30mph in a clover leaf wo sliding the front tires, that has never happened and never will. PS cars ps cars were made to do 2 things: Look bad ass and go fast in a straight line.
68rs406 Jan 9th, 08, 10:45 PM 10.5 class tires are bigger that you think, there is more rubber on the ground than my 16.5x31x15
Not true, unless you got cheated on your tread width.
We have our car set up to PSCA rules, and most other organizations are the same with the exception of the TT5 classes (true 10.5) which runs a true 10.5" tire, not a 10.5W like we run. According to the rules, you can run a M/T 29", 31" or 33"X10.5W or equivlent, the M/T ET drag 29" and 33" are 11.2" tread and the 31" is 10.8" .Now I don't know what manufacturer you use, but the M/T ET street 16.5 31X15 has a tread width of 12.4 or about 1 1/4" wider minimum, that may not seem like much to some but it's a big difference when trying to hook 2000 or so horsepower.

It has been done, but is a great idea.
I know a guy that specializes primarily in road race Mustangs (and Corvettes oddly enough) that has done this, and I'm pretty sure it's been done before that. I believe he challenged another shop & their customers in fact.
His cars are real road race/ street cars for the most part, not posers, so I would imagine they would hand most any group of either type car their butts overall, they build some fast corner carvers. I was one of his only drag race oriented customers (yes I have a Mustang too :D ) and he always gave me a hard time about "paying more and more to spend less time in the seat", he has a point but the acceleration is well worth the longevity of the ride :D

DougP Jan 10th, 08, 05:53 PM Larry and Doug, what do your cars run ET wise?
The way it was set up it should have run high 11s. However, the only time I had the car on the track was at Capitol Raceway with a bunch of other cars on a Saturday morning for the making of a commercial for ELD (a local speed shop / builder -- the guy who owns it is named Brian and he has been on Pinks both as a participant and more recently one of the technical advisors). Anyway, we were only allowed to heat up the tires and do a launch for the camera. We had to shut it down about 1/3 track since there were no emergency crews on site. BTW, the motor saw the other side of 7 grand -- I figured I was only a tow truck ride away from home and wasn't going to baby it in front of the rest of the guys. :D
68rs406 Jan 10th, 08, 10:03 PM Cool Doug, sweet looking car and I'm glad to hear you have had it out to the track, you should get it out again and see what you can get for a best
Since we are talking wide tires, heres a shot of the old race car, a Nova kind of like yours, running in heavy street in '02......

Your Nova looks like it was ready to "go strong down the pavement" (I see the front wheels off the gound!! I would love to get my Nova out to the track and run it hard, but I sold it last year and bought another 69 Camaro (see my sig :D).
ls427ss Jan 11th, 08, 12:51 PM 68rs406
Haven't had mine to the track since teardown for major changes to suit my style, but planning on running it @ Infineon in Sept on the Pinks all out show. Chassis needs to be certified and a competition license is required to run 9.99 and quicker, so if I can't achieve that by sept, I will need to mellow it out to run in the low 10's. As it sits right now, it has a 871 blown 510 BBC that would surely crack the 10 second range, and I have already been banned for life @ Sacramento Raceway for taking my 57 Gasser on a "shakedown" run with no cage or chassis certification with a blown small block that ran a 9.66 @ 141 mph. Man, were those guys ever pissed... they escorted my ass off the property, took pictures of me, my car, my license, and told me they would kick my ass if anyone who looked like me ever set foot on their property again...lol I'm a half hour from Infineon and don't want to screw that up, so I am going to follow the rules this time. I have some other engine packages that would be 10 to 11 second runners without blowers or NOS, but it's against my genetic makeup to slow anything down. I'm sure you understand that...

Cool Doug, it's acceptable to sell the nova since you bought a Camaro  .
The Nova was actually my best Buddie's car, I just kept him in the groove and tried to keep the nitrous tune up so the pistons stayed in the in the motor (usually successfully even :D ) . The fastest it went was 7.70 at 176 with the same motor as the current car, a 69 El camino . The Nova was a heavy pig, it weighed almost 3500#'s race weight, we had to add weight to the Elky to make weight, as it should be

67sprtcp Jan 11th, 08, 06:50 PM I like them mostly original , but a pro street car done right looks way better than some of these cars with 20" + wheels. They are not proportioned to the car. Just my 2 cents.

Here's a couple, first ones the Nova at our local track. Second one is the Elky in Vegas, not a great overall video of the pass but a killer launch shot (that'd be me pulling him into the beams btw). The race in vegas was against Rich Zehring, pretty much the baddest car there, then he got beat by an import in the finals
Nova 7.70 pass (http://smg.photobucket.com/albums/v236/rs406/?action=view¤t=Trevor.flv)
Elky at Vegas SCSN (http://smg.photobucket.com/albums/v236/rs406/?action=view¤t=trevorvegas.flv)
Heres the video of the finals I was talking about, Rich Zehring (the guy vs the elky) racing Justin Humphries, lose on a bigtime holeshot, but runs the number. This is a good one for the anti import guys out there :D Vegas SCSN outlaw 10.5 finals (http://video.yahoo.com/video/play?vid=232949)

I agree with everything you said in all the posts on this thread. I qouted this one for "posing". I'll step out say I am posing sort of. I don't like taking my 67 to the track. I like to go and make a run or two on test and tune nights and I might might be willing to knock over some cones in the local stadium parking lot. Mostly though I am happy just watching and looking around or being a spectator/fan of what other people do for fun.
I just don't want car I trailer to an event just to make 1/8 or 1/4 passes at a time. I don't want a car I trailer to an event just to show off all it's original numbers matching bits and pieces with documentation. I don't want a 67 Camaro body with a 2008 Z06 under it eiather. I have done some of the drag racing, I have done the numbers matching show car thing. I can in no way afford to do the "make a 2008 Z06 look like a 67 Camaro thing and I would truthfully rather own the Z06 as is if I could afford one. With all that said I have absoulutely nothing against these types of cars or builds. I love seeing them all at the local strip, shows or here on TC.
I would like to think my 67 is maybe a little of everything but then that falls into a fad saying called "resto mod" and that is the newest term to me that sounds really stupid. My 67 is coming along slowly but in a way that I want. I know I will like it but it's lumpy idle and side exit exhaust will not mean it's fast. It lowered suspension and at some point 17 inch wheels and larger 4 wheel disc brakes will not mean it's a corner carver or some track car. With the above it will never make the stock class at a show. I honestly hope that when it gets on the road people will enjoying seeing it and think cool Camaro. I know I will have loads of fun with her and 1000's of miles of highway and back road fun.
Keep building those 10.5 and pro-steet cars that run hard. Keep building those all out PT cars. Keep building those all stock show cars. I love them all!!!
BTW:
I also loved to see those wild 80's pro-street cars then and now. People have built some pretty wild cars of all types over the years. Keep em coming!! I'll be there to look at and enjoy all of them.

Matt,
I noticed that you also have a Weiand Team G intake. If you are not going to be using a heater(i'm not) here is what I did with the water pump fittings and the intake inlets.

I have no cooling issues with this, water temp is 185 sitting in traffic. If the thermostat malfunctions this will still bypass some water so you shouldn't blow a head gasket.
Blade Jan 12th, 08, 03:03 PM sweet thanks for the info

1969ProStreetCamaro Jan 13th, 08, 04:43 PM Lookin' good.
david calligan Jan 13th, 08, 05:17 PM Mat, another thing with the nuts that are welded to the top of the frame if you are using bushings they interfere and dont really look good.I would pull a diagonal measurement and then mark the holes. check the hight with the door gap if if it is good without the bushings the hight of the bushing is how much the frame rail will have to be cut down.Dont get discouraged when working with custom parts there will always be adjustments to be made at least this is what my buddy says.
Blade Jan 13th, 08, 07:01 PM I was thinking about grinding the welded bolts off bc they wont be used. Since I am not gonna be running inner fenders wells they are not needed and the only holes that will be need is the rad core support.
Blade Jan 13th, 08, 07:02 PM But man are those front wheels are tucked?
Blade Jan 14th, 08, 09:34 AM Here is a pic of the rear disc brakes, u can see the ladders bars, coilovers, the rear, and frame rails.

ls427ss Jan 14th, 08, 09:48 AM whats up with the motorplate up front? You don't trust the side mounts to hold her in? I'm thinkin pulley alignment will be tricky, but with the short pump lower & a long pump you may have issues anyway (or is that how you aligned them & only running 1 belt? In any event.. lookin good my friend!

Blade Jan 14th, 08, 02:38 PM There is a lil gap. I am gonna have to put a spacer in behind the balancer. As for the plates I just wanted to add some support.

Awesome:thumbsup::thumbsup:
prostreet69camaro Jan 14th, 08, 07:49 PM Dave, Yes I did the whole car. I have owned it for 28 years. It started out as a daily driver then decided to prostreet it. I had a 406 in it and decided to go with the blower motor. I have some old pictures of the build before there was a digital camera. I dont care what people say about prostreet but when I pull my car into a show they come to look at it. Maybe its the blower motor. Once you go to a blower motor you will not go back to a naturally aspired motor. Even my wife loves it.
Prostreet is not dead. Lets see some more Prostreet cars. I am also doing a protouring car for a buddy. Look at the pictures in my yahoo briefcase.

Katrina didn't have any effect I dont think.
cordovan68 Jan 15th, 08, 09:24 PM I am more of a fan of pro-touring than pro street. But as a kid I do remember my dad taking to me to steet machine nationals in Indiana and when the power tour first started to come to town. Not that it was that long ago but I use to love the sound of a big motor cruising down the street. Reading about all your pro-street projects is just bring back some cool memories. I love race cars and how fast all the classes are going know but I still like hearing a big motored car ripping up the streets! Hopefully with the technology out there today, we could see some more of it but with a updated look!
prostreet69camaro Jan 15th, 08, 09:25 PM Dave, Yes from Maryland that would be a long trip. My wife is from Ohio and we go there for some car shows during the summer for vacation.
I did not go last year. I went to Goodguys in Fort Worth TX, I had some friends go to Cruisin the Coast and they had a great time. Last time I went was before Katrina.
David, They have 900 cars registered already and the show is in October. They let 6000 cars register then they turn them away.

Mike, I kind of lost track being in so many posts where is this show your talking about that takes 6000 cars? Are you saing you are going to OC Md. if you are I will definatly look you up to check out your car.Does your wife go with you and hows she like hanging with all the car guys .My wife and I are going to OC I hope she likes it.
prostreet69camaro Jan 16th, 08, 07:14 PM Dave, We usually go to the Ohio / Kentucky car shows. The one I was talking about is on the gulf coast in Mississippi. It is in October. It is in 5 different cities along the gulf coast.
Check out www.cruisinthecoast.com
It is a 7 day show / cruise and the funniest part is when everyone cruises up HWY 90 at night. Well cruise for a while then sit in chairs and watch everybody. The only problem is that is hurricane season and it could be raining.
My wife is definately into cars which I am lucky. She was my high school sweetheart and she has been around them all here life. I cant go to a show without her.
1969ProStreetCamaro Jan 16th, 08, 07:29 PM Mike,
Where in Ohio and Kentucky are the car shows that you attend. I have a friend in Tipp City, Ohio that I visit occasionally that has a 71 Chevelle with a 555 in it. We have went to Somerset,Kentucky for Somernites Cruise and a car show in Middlesboro,Kentucky that a mutual friend of ours organizes. I saw the link for Cruisin the Coast. I probably won't be able to attend this year as I have plans to attend Somernites Cruise at least once this year in addition to attending SuperSummer Cruise in Branson,Mo. I will do my best to attend next year's Cruisin the Coast. For the past 8 years I have attended both Grand Rod Runs in Pigeon Forge, Tn. I will not be going this year because it's starting to get old seeing the same thing over and over. I will seriously consider next year's Cruisin the Coast. If you are interested in the SuperSummer Cruise in Branson,Mo. here is the link.

prostreet69camaro Jan 18th, 08, 11:43 AM David,
We usually go to Beech Bend Raceway Park. I have been to the Thunder Cruise and NHRA Nostagalia Races / Car show 2 years ago. They had the NHRA Nostaglia race in Columbus and is coming back to Beech Bend this year in June. I tried getting rooms around where my buddies are staying but no rooms available. We usually go to Indy for Goodguys or Super Chevy. Dont know where we are going since no rooms available by my buddies but might try a different exit or area in Bowling Green.
david calligan Jan 18th, 08, 07:18 PM Mike I''m in Baltimore Maryland the only thing I'm doing thisyear is OC MD. Next year I might try to widen my horizons if the money is right. Now that I posted I think its the wrong Dave.

prostreet69camaro Jan 24th, 08, 10:25 AM David,
What is the update on your car???
david calligan Jan 24th, 08, 05:02 PM Not doing to much its a little cold and don't like to spend the $3.25 a gallon for propane for pleasure. I'm waiting on a Buddy of mine to help me put the quarter glass in and this will get me rolling again. This is just another hurdle that I want to complete. My buddy always says, is that the only thing you need to get done and that there is nothing else you can do. I like to do things in order and when I get to something and cant get it done I'll wait because I cant seem to start something else. I have another buddy shortening my phil neck thats on my intake, it hits the inner structure of the hood. I paid $120 for it and have to machine it.In a nut Shell I have the interior to put in which is just an install, exhaust, front end alignment, tune and go. It would take me and my buddy two 8 hr days and I think it would be finished.I will be done by May 18 for OC. Mike thanks for asking and I will keep you posted.:beers:
1969ProStreetCamaro Jan 24th, 08, 05:58 PM Sounds like it won't be very long before another Pro Street Camaro will be burnin' up the streets!! Post some pics of it when you hit the road!!!
Blade Jan 31st, 08, 09:04 AM David-- I just sent checkered racing a email reguarding the frame. After putting the front end back on I notice that the rad core support holes sit on the two weld nuts that are both side. The rad core support holes are not drilled. I mean what are we suppose to do grind them off? So I EMAILED them to see what they suggest on these points. I cant see how they charge $1000.00 for install when things dont line up correctly. If u sell a sub frame for a camaro it should all line up correctly. Another point the stock core support holes look like they are too large to drill in the frame rails. I am at the point of putting my stock subframe back in the car just cleaning it up. No difference just weld the connectors back to the frame.
prostreet69camaro Jan 31st, 08, 12:19 PM Matt01ES,
Dont you hate it when you buy something and it doesnt line up right. It would seem they would have it all figured out or they are going to tell you it is universal. Good Luck
Dont give up yet!
Blade Jan 31st, 08, 12:31 PM I mean they claim it works for 67-69 camaro. I am not sure but that means to me that stock components line back up when u install the products. Maybe that is just me.
david calligan Jan 31st, 08, 03:07 PM Matt, Yes I cut the bolts off and started over. I sat the front on loosened the bolts on the body mounts and marked where the holes were. I then cut about 3/4" down and 4" front to back and put a 1/2"X 2" plate that I drilled and tapped to fit a 1/2" bolt on the core support. This was all to retain the core support bushings. I also shimmed the body mounts about 1/2" this makes the fenders have a little downward pull .I don't think Checker Racing intends to use bushings. It took a Little time and ingenuity but I got it.Its just another run through the wilderness.
Blade Jan 31st, 08, 06:34 PM So u put a plate on the side of the frame and bolted the core support too? Can u take a pic of this?
david calligan Jan 31st, 08, 07:12 PM [quote=Matts01ES;932103]So u put a plate on the side of the frame and bolted the core support too? Can u take a pic of this?[/quote
Matt,
I/ll try to tomorow it might be tough to get a decent picture.
Blade Feb 1st, 08, 08:01 AM This is the email that I got back.....
The stock Camaro/Nova's clip come with three different sets mounting holes for the core support. We originally put all of them in our front end but had complaints of all three in. So we now only put the one set in, that set covers more than 75% of the front end. We send the two extra weld nut in case you have one that uses one of the other two set ups. So it sound like you have one of the odd balls. So use you extra weld nut to mount the core support.
My issue now is that my weld nuts were already installed when I got the frame. So what its saying is that the core support goes in the three weld nuts. Ok then why was mine already installed on the frame.
Blade Feb 2nd, 08, 08:36 AM I think that I have figured this issue out with this frame. OK I figured out that I have to put the new core support in the car then put the front end back on. Then check all the lining and the hole should be on the top of the weld nuts. Use the bushings, and it should work out. We'll see!
david calligan Feb 3rd, 08, 08:22 AM Matt, do you still want pictures?
prostreet69camaro Feb 4th, 08, 03:42 PM Here is some pictures of my buddies 69 Camaro from the Goodguys show in Fort Worth. It is Hugger Orange and has a 540 making 1100HP.Also another one of my 69.
david calligan Feb 4th, 08, 04:51 PM Mike,Did you do or help in the construction of this one.Yall got some nice cars makes me want to move to Texas.. Keep em pictures of the pro-street coming they are all right in my book.
prostreet69camaro Feb 4th, 08, 09:08 PM David,
No I did not help in the build up of Sams car. He actually did it himself. He had someone else do the frame work and paint, then he put it together. It is really a nice car. It was 76 degrees here today. My electricity runs about $200 to $400 in the summers. I work out of a 2 car garage. I wish I had a shop but cant afford your electricity bill.

Blade Feb 14th, 08, 10:51 PM that would be sweet
Hi guys.
I was pointed to this thread today, and to clarify, nothing has been planned for a new forum. Other than this thread there only seems to be a handful of other topics? Certainly not against providing a section if there is enough interest so will have to look into it further.
I do get a fair bit of email but don't recollect anything about this before.
Blade Feb 15th, 08, 12:32 PM So what ur saying is that you guys will make a section?

Gonna be removing the engine next weekend to upgrade from a flat tappet cam to a roller cam and have the engine tuned on the dyno when all machine work is finished by The Performance Clinic. Never had a roller cam or any dyno work but I am lookin' forward to it!!!!!

david calligan Feb 18th, 08, 07:19 AM Sounds like a plan my motor is a hydraulic roller running but not driving yet hopefully soon though.Keep us posted on the progress, has this motor been dynoed to do a comparison.
Blade Feb 18th, 08, 08:08 AM woah woah dave whats ur plans
prostreet69camaro Feb 18th, 08, 05:42 PM David, Are you going to run a solid or hydralic roller. Also are you going to run oil restrictors if you run a solid roller. If you are going to run the restrictors, I suggest drilling them bigger for street use. Also talk to the cam manufacture about it.
Blade Feb 18th, 08, 05:51 PM well I was thinking about going with a electric fan. So I say screw it. I am going with a alumi fan.
david calligan Feb 18th, 08, 06:15 PM I didn't build the motor but I dont think it has restricters this was built as a street motor.

Engine has not previously been on the dyno. I think that would be a good comparison to do that.
1969ProStreetCamaro Feb 18th, 08, 06:29 PM David, Are you going to run a solid or hydralic roller. Also are you going to run oil restrictors if you run a solid roller. If you are going to run the restrictors, I suggest drilling them bigger for street use. Also talk to the cam manufacture about it.
Mike,
I am going to talk to the owner of the machine shop(The Performance Clinic) before I decide on solid or hydraulic. I have a specific list of questions such as the one that you are asking.I am leaning toward a solid roller though. I am open to suggestions:yes: as I have never dealt with a roller cam:noway:.
prostreet69camaro Feb 18th, 08, 06:40 PM David,
I have ran a solid roller in my old 406. Be careful with your selection of roller lifters. Call some manufacturers and tell them what you are looking for and you are going to drive it on the street for short periods of time. I dont know how far you drive to different car shows. A buddy of mine and my motor ( 406 ) both ate some solid rollers. I was running a Lunati and he was running a Crane in a 468. We both ate lifters. It could have been from weak valve springs also. They make some lifters that are designed now for street use with some slots on the sides for lubrication. I also saw a post on here ( last couple days ) about lifters with small holes in them. I dont know anything about them. Im running a hydralic roller in the 502 and have no problems with it for 3 years. I`ll drive my car about an 1 to 1-1/2 hours from my house.

Are you working on the car alto I've hit a little on mine the past couple days got the window trim installed. When your car is complete I think your trailer is gonna come up a little short...lol...this has been the story of my lif through out always a little short. This is gonna be one bad A$$ 70 when its complete,Looks good just gotta get it done huh.
pro70z28 Feb 21st, 08, 07:32 PM The bottom pic. is Chassis cert. day @ rt. 66. That's the NASCAR garage across the street. I needed a trailer to get it there for my 7.50 cert. and that's all I had at the time. I've since bought a bigger trailer. The middle pic. is where I'm building the car. I did a lillte work on the intercooler mount tonight.

I work on mine mostly in the summer I hate to pay the heat bill to work on my car in the winter. What kind of work do you do that you have no time is it 7 days a week it must be your own gig I guess. If so you need to take some time for your self and relax and work 16 hours or so on the car on Sundays...lol...

I just turned 55 a couple weeks ago. Climbing around in that cage is a chore. The new tabs & brackets I'm putting in are just getting tacked. I'll finish weld the stuff when the chassis is "comfortably" back on the rotisserie.
I'm just a 1 man sign shop. Once the weather breaks road construction signs start. Historically that keeps me busy until late fall early winter.
prostreet69camaro Feb 22nd, 08, 09:06 AM Well you guys should have a job like me. I work a 14 day on / 14 day off schedule. It is nice to have 14 days off. I have been working on a pro-touring car for a buddy for 3 years now. Finally going to get it painted next month then start putting it together. I have a lot of work left to do on the car. It is just a rolling shell right now but ready to get painted.
I`m fixing to turn 51 and it gets harder to work on these cars. Boy I wish I was younger.

prostreet69camaro Feb 23rd, 08, 08:58 AM I am going to work on my car finally. I have a tilt column to put in and I have the Foose billet grill from Year One to put in my RS frontend. If you already have the RS frontend on your car, Year One will sell you the grill for 110.00 instead of buying the kit which is around 400.00. I have to cut out the center of my GM grill to fit the billet grill. I`ll post some before and after pictures when I am done.

david calligan Feb 24th, 08, 07:04 AM Is that a March reservoir I have that on my 69 for the power steering and paid a hard $180 it killed me.By the way the grill looks great how hard was it to install and how do you like it. You can tell that Matt is defiantly the youngest out of us He must be the Texing king I think he only needs like three letters on the keyboard.Matt quit texing and get back to work...lol...
HEY:do I need to put this in classified
Looking for a 98 to 00 Beetle for $4000 90k to 120k for work I know this is a girl car but they fit a 6'-5" 300 lb bald guy.
Also: What do you think of this, drove 200 miles to look at a Beetle for me for work the guy told me the car only had scratches on the gas door.Got there and there wasn't a panel on the car that didn't have a scratch. Also said the interior was rip free and no burn holes and back seat had four burn holes needless to say drove 200 miles back with no car $90 in tolls. Got a good road test for my home made trailer though.Mark this down to liars....
prostreet69camaro Feb 24th, 08, 07:55 AM I have 2 of the grills. I bought the kit for the other 69. The grill mounted to the same studs that the chrome outer bezel of the round part of the grill. The hardest part is the studs are to short with the added metal from the billet grill mounting tabs. On the kit you have to trim around the grill for it to fit flush inside the fenders. I dont know why they made it that way.
On the one I just installed in my car, its mounting tabs were welded in different spots which did not line up with the mounting tabs of the chrome piece. I had to mount it to the grill and use counter sunk screws so the chrome would sit flush with the plastic. I had to cut out all the inside of the plastic grill which wasnt to bad. Oveall it fit great and the look is killer. Especially with the Marquez blinkers and tail lights.
David Calligan, Sorry to hear above your adventure but hell it looks cold there so what else you going to do. It is in the 70`s here today.
david calligan Feb 24th, 08, 08:44 AM Sounds like a little work you had to do on the grill how frustrated did you get,I think I'll stay stock with mine.By the way you suck..lol.. you could have told me it was in the 50s not 70s its about 38 here but I'm still going to try and work on the car + my buddy's going to drill my new Moroso valve covers for the breathers today and I'm going to try to get my kick panels done with the woofers and tweeters.
Blade Feb 24th, 08, 10:48 AM The grill looks great.
Blade Feb 24th, 08, 10:54 AM Well It comes down that I have to buy inner fender wells. I went and put the new rad core in the car and be hold there is a large rust spot on the passenger side fender well. So I went on ground up and they are having a sale inner fenders wells for 145.00 for both. so the new rad and battery relocator to the trunk and the wiring harness and the now inner fenders wells are next and a wait. lol

I wish I had bought Lemmons. I have the Hooker Super Comps and the passenger side sits lower than the drivers side. I have beat the hell out of them on the bottom from bottoming out. Paid over 600 buck for aluminized. How much for the lemmons? I heard about 1200 bucks.

I have the Hooker Super Comps as well on my World Products heads and with the raised exhaust ports the fit is horrendous and the coating on them was not very good.
$1,175 uncoated
+385 to have them coated.
david calligan Mar 1st, 08, 05:03 AM You guys have way to much money I don't think I can visit this post anymore...lol... I paid $450 for 2 1/8 coated hookers and seem to be fine but had to do some cutting and welding on the pass side frame,I put a piece of 3" pipe about 3/4" in for one of the tubes and that was the worst part.Matt if you running a BB you may have to do the same depending on the headers you use.
david calligan Mar 1st, 08, 05:06 AM Good new everyone. All the parts have arrived. I will be taken pictures soon.
DAVID- I emailed checkered Racing. They are sending my new weld nuts. Since they are in the wrong positions for the rad core. Its coming along.
Matt if you are using stock bushings I don't think I would even use the nuts because it make the core support sit funny.

I tried to take some pics but the wouldnt come out,If you want call me later and I'll try to explain.410-320-2946...

david calligan Mar 2nd, 08, 03:17 PM Mike have you ever sent a text before I dont even know how.Matts just to wild with the letter thing...
prostreet69camaro Mar 2nd, 08, 03:37 PM David, I have sent text out. I am just slow typing it. My wife and daughter make fun of me. Plus I need reading glasses.
Matt, Make sure you weld up all them holes on the wheel wells that you arent going to use. Also on the radiator support. Makes it look alot better. Plus you need some pretty fuel cell and battery box like shiny aluminum. But I understand that cost alot more money and when I first put my car together I had a plastic fuel cell and battery box. I thought it looked good until a friend came up to me and pointed it out.
david calligan Mar 2nd, 08, 04:32 PM David Calligan,
Your speakers look great. Do you have a roll bar in your car. I have the swing out bars in mine with the Chassis Engineering 90 degree pipe to the floor boards . Those would not fit in my car but I like them. Do they get in the way of your feet.
Mike I missed this post I have drop bars in my car . They made the kick panels a little tough to get in and I think they will be Ok as far as foot room.I put my seats about four inches back further than stock which helps for foot room. I got my tail lights and trunk panels and amps all back in the car and are staying in for good now. My buddy that came over to tune my sterio said that I needed to seal the sub box and the sub so when you push it down by hand it should draw a vacuum and come up slowly. I finished this and the sterio sounds pretty good probably the best sounding radio I have ever had in my life...

Matt,
Looks like you have some nice parts there:yes:. I saw Mike's suggestion about the fuel cell.Below is a picture of what I did with mine. I had a cover made with a removable top so the fuel cell could be serviced from the top if needed and there is also a cover made for the bottom of the fuel cell to protect it from below while still being able to remove the fuel cell from the bottom. It is covered by a custom cover made with factory Camaro carpet.
