Hi All:
Going to be taking my '68 convertible to the body shop this week (if it ever stops raining here) to get the lower dash area painted. Does anyone have any idea what the "gloss factor" is on the original Lacquer - Ditzler DIA-9266. I understand the dash is suppossed to be about 60% gloss. Would the Ditzler Low Gloss Black (9266) approximate this sheen?? I do like the sheen of my dash now (I beleive it is the original paint) but there are tons of scratches and chips so it does need to be repainted.
Thanks!!!!

I painted a friends dash on a 65 Impala with dupont Lacquer that he bought from Rick's. Thinned the paint 125%, sprayed it and just left it alone, no buffing. The finish looked just like the original.

Would that approximate to a semi-gloss in the rattle can?

It should be close. The problem I find with rattle cans is there can be a difference between brands, even when they both say semigloss graemlins/clonk.gif .

I painted my dash using a rattle can and found that Krylon Semi Gloss matched the OER stuff pretty close.

NPD carries a great spay car interior paint that matches the original sheen very well.

I tried many different rattle cans while looking for just the right finish. After wasting can after can, I called my favorite resto catalog and had them ship me the proper stuff. It looks perfect. Some of the resto rattle cans seem generic and others are marketed as, well, more specific. After trying so many times, I paid the extra 2 dollars for the better, specific black resto paint. It may not be better, I may have wasted 2 bucks, but heck, it did the trick.

If your color is black, try Rustoleum Satin Black #7777. It's just about perfect.
