Where does the water from the cowl area drain to? I know it goes to the kick panel area, but what specific area front, middle or rear? Reason I'm asking is I would like to maybe drill additional drain holes from the bottom to aid in drainage. Ist gen's are are prone to rot around this area and I just want to at least lessen the problem. Thanks.

I believe it goes down through the rocker... and drains through a small square hole on the around the inner pinch frame of the car with a little rubber square pc of rubber by it?... I found my square outlet but the rubbers were gone... and the rockers are full of crap so they proll bad.

There's a name for this drainage system, and I've been racking my brain trying to think of it. Somebody help me out.

Just keep the rockers cleaned out, and you should be fine.

Lmao :p

I dunno what the big deal of it running down the cowl and out in the front of the car... Why make the water travel across more metal then need be? especially when it can get clogged..

It drains just behind the the front fender where it bolts to the cowl area. The cowl drains are on both sides just in front of the rockers. If you look closely you will see some open area where water comes outs.

Problems are leaves, trash junk and dirt clog the drains up. You can access this area from the kick panles if they are out and clean from there or get something like putty knife and move it around and clean it out.

I made mine larger so leaves and junk would drian out the bottom, drilling holes will not do anything, cutting a little more area into the drain will help if that's what you want to do. If not I recomend finding a good way to keep debris out or be able to clean it out. People in Ca or states that don't have leaves, pine straw or other things gowning that can drop into there this might not be much of a worry.

Those don't go into the wiper box area or where the wiper transmission is at. It's this area that get's debris travels to the bottoms of the rockers.

A first gen should be treated like part of the family:) not left outside in the rain to get wet and cold and covered with leaves. Sell the wife kids ,and the dog...lol... and please put the gem inside that way you wont have to worry where the water is going.

Look for clogs, it could be coming in the from the vents in the kick panels then on the floor. Worth a look, also look up under you piller wher it meets your cowl in the corner area. My Camaro was leaking from there but only when driving, found out it was sealer problem and no rust thank goodness. Cleaned, painted and re-sealed and no leak!!

It was called "Flush and dry body rocker panels" from "The conclusive camaro recognition guide" by John R. Hooper.

Paula's vintage Buicks have screen attached to the bottom of the cowl vent to keep leaves and junk out. Looks easy to duplicate.

I thought I remember reading the term "flow through rockers" somewhere in chevy info.
