Hi guys, I love the 69 Camaros. I'm looking to buy a Z28 clone. It has a fresh 355, 4 spd, 4:11 Posi, Steel Cowl Induction Hood, and a Clean Body. The car has been bondoed at the wheel wells and looks like not much rust anywhere. I noticed some minor cracks in the paint above the trunk but besides that it has a good paint job. It sounds like a beast and I'm serious about it. What kinda things should I look for or get checked out before I buy it? I got the price down to 15,000. Is it fair? Help me out so I can be a proud 69 Camaro owner.

Since it's no Z/28 I would consider it a base coupe with upgrades. The final value will depend on how nice those upgrades are. Like does it have disc brakes? 12 bolt? What parts are in the 355? Is it a pro-built engine with warranty or did the owner built it himself? How is the interior, stock (Z/28 correct??) or custom?

At first thought it seems a fair price, but your best bet would be to take a good digital camara and make a lot of pictures (close-ups of bad areas) and post them over here, that way a better answer will be possible...

The car has been bondoed at the wheel wells and looks like not much rust anywhere. I noticed some minor cracks in the paint above the trunkSounds like it may have needed new quarters but the cheaper route was taken. No need to think of it as a Z clone as a clone of this car would have a 302. As already pointed out, consider the investment as a base coupe. Have a qualified paint/body guy check out those problem areas BEFORE you buy or you may be doing the body work again in a short time.

I lived in Michigan for many years and have worked on Michigan Camaros for just as long. Check the inside of the rear wheel openings, the area between the gas tank and the lower rear tail panel below the rear bumper, the area where the front of the rear springs bolt to the body, the underside front lip of the hood and the underside of the rear lip of the deck lid, the lower section of the fenders just in front of the doors (look underneath) and the areas around the front and back glass. Pull up the carpet and check the floors as well, even if you have to pull out the seats. There are other areas but this will get you started.
