I'm pulling sub-frame off my '69. The rear end and wheels will remain on the car so I just need to support the front. Since I haven't removed the transmission mount, will that be enough to support it? Thanks, Kevin

I would think the Tranny mount is bolted to the sub-frame.

I agree, front of the rockers. Use a 2X4 or something to spread the load on the rockers.

Thanks, I'm trying to avoid some elaborate set-up. Kevin

I set mine on the rockers. I used a pair of vehicle dolleys and laid several 2 x 4 across them to get the desired height.

2x4s to distribute the load is fine, but not really necessary. Just put a jackstand under each side. The rockers are plenty strong enough to hold the weight.

This is how I did mine

Like RAD said (like I need to have his back...:)), the front of the rockers is more than strong enough as is. If you look at where all the rocker parts join there is a notch in the vertical flange; I can't find the reference right now, but I am 90% sure I have read that the assembly line body carrying equipment used the notch as an attachment point.

Anyway, mine spent a few months supported there. Note: I usually use either timber cribbing or another set of jackstands crossways just behind the primary stands, and just under but not touching the rockers, just to provide a safety factor when under the car. They are not shown in this pic (sitting off to the sides), but you have to make sure you're safe under there :)
