Quicky question....
Stripping my firewall and the original color that showed up is a totally different shade of green than the body was. The car was code 57 Fathom Green, but the shade on the cowl/firewall is a bright green!?
Any idea why or if this is something others have found?

Could it be a color undercoat to help keep the primer color from showing through the finish? I know sometimes modern paint jobs are like this...but did they do that back then?

Or could it be that this is another restoration layer someone else put on?

I have a parts car and my driver, both LeMans blue. Once the interior panels were out, both cars showed a lighter blue. At first I thought it was overspray but the coverage is consistent, making me feel it is a different shade as you are seeing.

This is a guess, but I would bet the car painted before yours was the lighter green and the Painter dude was just blowing out the gun before adding your shade of green.

Very strange... the things the factory did back then.
