For a 68 RS Camaro.

I have multi 5 Leaf rear springs and want to drop the rear about a 1 1/2". Has anyone removed a leaf to drop the rear? Which one do you remove and how much will it drop? I'm trying not to use blocks and will buy new leafs if this doesn't work out, but I heard somehwere you can pull a leaf. Thanks!!

I did it years ago to my '69 by removing 2 of them. I have diferent springs now, but I think I removed the 2 smallest ones on the bottom of the pack. Made a nice difference. With all 5 it had a good size air gap between the wheel opening and the tire. After removing the 2 the lip of the quarter panel covered part of the tire.

Steve,
how was the ride and spring wrap with those removed? Why did you switch from this setup? Thanks for your input.

The ride was fine. I drove it like that for years. Car ran mid 12's with those springs and no traction device at all. As I got the car to run quicker I realized I needed a spring more suited to drag racing. I'm now running split mono's and Caltracs.

Buy the Hotchkiss 1 1/2" drop leaf's, they are good quality and ride good as well.

I'm looking at the Global West with 1-1/2" drop. One expensive and one pretty decent.

You could also get your springs de-arched at any local spring shop. I had mine done on my camaro. I told them how much lower I wanted the car to sit and they took care of it for me. I have some pictures of my car on some previous posts. Oh....I didn't remove any leafs either.

I was trying to see if I can accomplish a good ride and stance without modifying the springs. I want to try and remove leafs first then if it doesn't work I'll be putting in new leafs. Since I'm putting a new engine and Tremec TKO I'm trying to spare some $$ and accomplish an okay stance.

This may not be standard proceedure, but I've done it on 2 cars with
good result. Remove springs from car, take 2 short springs from stack,
bolt back together. find a level paved area and place the springs upside down with one end on a 4x4 board. Space them on the ground as far apart as the front wheelbase of a heavy truck.1ton Chev will work. Drive
on the springs and leave it parked a day or two. The ride quality will be same as before, just lower. To de-arch even more, stack blocks higher than
4x4. Don't laugh, it doesn't cost a dime.
