View Full Version : Jetta wipers in a first gen
Radio Joe Mar 25th, 01, 06:31 PM I don't know if anyone has tryed this yet, but I was tinkering on my 69 camaro today and went to get somestuff out of the trunk of my storage shed(85 Jetta) and found an extra windshield wiper setup from the jetta. I took it to my camaro, and was suprised that it was very close! the jetta settup is shorter by about 1/8 of an inch from between the center of left to center of right. I added a plate to the firewall over each stock windsheild wiper hole, dimpled it to raise the wipers slightly and it fit pretty well!! I had to cut off the lower mounting bracket from the assembly and spin the motor around so it would fit, but I think it is going to work good. I also had to shorten the wiper arms about 6 inches, but I'm going to junkyard shop for some that fit without shortening them. anyhow, it fit, and now there is extra room in the engine compartment. I'll take pictures when the settup is finished and anyone who wants to try it, email me and I'll help with any questions I can answer.

Does the motor fit inside the cowl??

Teetoe_Jones Mar 26th, 01, 07:36 PM It sounds like the entire assembly is moved under the cowl, including the motor, there by making a cleaner firewall, and giving more clearence for BB valve covers ect..
Sounds killer Radio Joe, now if i can figure out how to use that Mercdes Benz mono-blade wiper on project "50-50", i'll be set!

Radio Joe Mar 26th, 01, 08:51 PM YEP! it moves the entire assembly inside the cowl area, and also adds delay to the wipers. I'm sure there are other cars you could get wiper assemblies from that would also work, but I had parts for this one and it fits pretty good. Just one more way to clean up the firewall.
Titoe.I've been following your posts about the mono wiper. sounds killer if you can get it to work, good luck!
jrt67ss350 Mar 27th, 01, 09:37 AM Excellent conversion for those wanting to install an LS-1 in their first gen, which typically requires major firewall surgery to relocate the wiper motor to clear the coil packs!!!

Joe G Mar 27th, 01, 07:54 PM OK, I'm awake now. That does sound like a great move. Intermittent wipers, too; too cool!
