I looking at purchasing a camaro that the owner say is painted with red imron. Could someone tell me if that is a good quality of paint. I don't remember reading about it.

That is a very hard, shiny paint. It is great for a daily driver or show car. You are lucky, unless it is peeling or needs to be repainted. Then you are in for a long battle to get it off the metal.

Imron was originally made for use on heavy duty fleet trucks, but with its durability it made its way onto many cars and trucks. Its not as good now as it was years ago because of the VOC content laws, but its still a very durable paint. BTW it is a DuPont paint.

Imron is widely known as the best paint available. and therefore is used as a selling point, weather or not it's on the car at all. Kinda like the way everyone idiot with a GM smallblock refers to it as a "Corvette" engine when it is selling time

Its a very durable high gloss polyurathane enamel. I have the same type, but made by Ditzler (PPG), and after over 12 years, looks as good as day one (although it is garage kept). FWIW, I was told that the Ditzler version was originally developed for aircraft use.

Where I work we have used Imron on Jet aircraft and Helicopters for years. I am planning to put it on my 69 RSSS when finished. It is much more resilient than base coat clear coat, which seems to chip very easily. Imron, if left in a cup to harden will turn into a rubber ball that will actually bounce, (a little.) In past years, one problem was their clear coat in that it would yellow but that is supposed to be fixed now. I had it on an old plow truck for 15 years and even with all the sand abrasion and never waxed it had very little chipping and still shown nicely. My base coat clear coat car is all chipped up after two years.
