Acrylic enamel is not the most durable or best looking paint. With some work, it can be brought to a fairly nice shine, but it does require "elbow grease".

I would venture to say this paint job, minus the necessary tools, cost him $100-$150. Single stage paint is an easy, cheap way to paint a car and get decent results.

Honestly, this alone wouldnt shy me away from a car if its solid and not overpriced. Just dont expect the paint to look good forever, specially if the car is going to be out exposed to the weather.

Be wary of freshly painted cars, check the car thoroughly.

If I could buy a gallon of yellow for under 150$ a set up I'd be spraying everything yellow.
I just priced the 2000 corvette yellow for a buddy and it totalled out to around 400 in acrylic enamel.
You could clear over the yellow later if you wanted to convert it to a bc/cc type look.
Some people like spraying enamels because of the quick shine.
I personally find them to be a pain in the butt to work with. But if the car is solid, and I haven't seen any 70 camaros that were solid and then sprayed with a cheaper enamel versus urethane I'd say buy it.
You ought to check it out real close your self. You might be surprised at what hides beneath that shiny yellow paint.

I can get a base coat/clear coat setup for $400-$500. More specific colors will run a bit higher but the standard colors can be had rather cheap. Pricing also is heavily affected by the manufacturer, as Sherwin-Williams offers an "off" brand paint, I dont remember the name right off hand. The acrylic enamel paints I have priced are very affordable.

Acrylic Enamels were the standard as recent as 10 years ago.I just sprayed a jeep with Centari. It was the first time i used it in a long time, and i was amazed at the shine. It sprays much different than bc/cc.Once you sand it and buff it its hard to tell the difference between it and single stage urethane. It also seems very durable,i bumped it a few times during assembly and didn't hurt it.A lot of people like to use single stage on solid colors, its less time, money and less of a chance for dirt to get into the paint. If your spraying a metallic color stay away from it.Heres the way i decide,if i want a top of the line finish i use base/clear.Nice job, solid color i use single stage urethane.solid color and the guys on a budget,Centari enamel.just make the car all the same color and shine,Omni single stage.Hope this helps.
