View Full Version : Coming home, need a Carb.
sherr20 Jan 17th, 08, 12:09 PM Getting close to coming home from Iraq next month and looking to get started on my car again. I had several, several months of no internet so it is nice to catch back up on the site.
I am running the engine in my signature and adding a TKO-600, my big thing now is I need a new carburetor as I sold my Demon before deployment. I was not happy ever with my Demon even after tweaking quite a bit. So what else should I look at? How would an Edelbrock Thunder AVS 800 do? Or an AED Holley 750? I also plan on adding a Hyd Roller camshaft with specs close to what I have now in the XE284H.
Vintage 68 Jan 17th, 08, 12:15 PM Jerry - glad to hear you're coming home soon :hurray:
Hopefully 'JimM' will chime-in on this, his set-up is close to your's and he's got an AFB/Edelbrock 800 on his now.
6D9 Jan 17th, 08, 12:45 PM I think for mostly street some strip a Holley 770 Street avenger would work sweet. I am using a Holley 3310 750 and it works great as well. I did add secondary metering blocks to mine and the 770 already has them.
Everett#2390 Jan 17th, 08, 06:14 PM Thanks for the time, have a safe trip home to your family.
dawg Jan 17th, 08, 06:24 PM I just bought an AED carb and i am happy as a clam!
no adjustments needed other than idle and mixture
sherr20 Jan 18th, 08, 12:25 PM Like I said, not doing another Demon, but am willing to consider an edelbrock. The AED tuned Holley sounds good, just the base model HO series 750?
6D9 Jan 18th, 08, 12:46 PM I would stay away from the Edelbrock...never had good luck with them. I hear the AED's are real nice. But dont discount the 770 or 3310....mine near box stock went 12.0 at 112 with 0 tuning.
68RS-SS Jan 18th, 08, 12:51 PM Jerry,
Your service is appreciated!!! I have a very similar setup to you (450hp 383 with TKO600 & 3:73 gears) and if I where to pick my ideal carb would go with a Holley, Mech. Secondary Double Pumper 750CFM and would get the one that doesn't have a choke and eliminates all that unnecessary garb that is restrictive and unnecessary for a hot-rodded muscle car. I think they are about $400. You really don't need anything more expensive or fancy than that.
That's what I'd get. Glad your coming back and can't wait until some people I know over there make it back too.

Thank you T/C Brother ,and stay safe your last month ,3310 750 mach or vac. your choice ....Happy Motoring soon Thanks again Jerry:)
zdld17 Jan 18th, 08, 04:56 PM I hear by nominate a 3310 for your engine. Same stuff I have run for a long time, no issues. I do have a 850 HP holley and am tempted to install on the 383. After I make a few second gear WOT pulls with the vacumn gauge, I will know what I need for sure.
Good to hear you are back, safely. Thank you for your service.
wiskeesour Jan 18th, 08, 07:55 PM Thanks for the help Jerry.
