There is lots of interesting stuff there. I wish mine was far enough along to consider that. Eric Kammerer Jan 18th, 08, 09:43 PM Hi Bernie! Welcome to Team Camaro! The factory rear speakers in a vert mount on the rear brace behind the seatback brace, and face up and back, with the grilles cut into the top well liner. There used to be some pics here showing the cardboard boxes/baffles they mount installed on the brace, but it looks like the link no longer works. Maybe someone can post some new ones? Most of us ragtop guys ignore the factory location, because you can't hear them with the top down, and who wants to drive with the top up? :) But with an IPC, I can see the desire to be correct... milehigh67 Jan 23rd, 08, 03:51 PM As you know there is very little room for speakers in the rear of a convertible. I do not have an original numbers matching car so I was not concerned about cutting into panels to make room for speakers. I was able to mount a 4 inch round speaker into the rear arm rests in the rear although I had to make a 3/8 inch spacer to make it fit. There is very little room behind the speaker because the springs for the convertible top fold into that space. The more shallow the speaker is the better. Here is a picture of one of the speakers and here is my website where you can view the interior photos section for a wider view. http://home.comcast.net/~brian.stanley/Home.html I have since removed the spacer and recovered it with a better leather material for a cleaner look. You can see in the picture that the first attempt was a little sloppy (look at the very top edge of the speaker where you can see a small crinkle which bugged me too much). As a note, a 4 inch speaker is not too good for pushing low end frequencies (especially in a convertible). I supplement the low end with a trunck mounted sub. I used an infinity basslink because they are very small and dont take up much space plus they do not need a separate amp. They push a lot of low end frequency although with the top down it is still muffled a bit. Not bad for an old muscle car though. Let me know if you need some more help on other areas in your sound system as I have already lived through this pain. http://home.comcast.net/~brian.stanley/wsb/rearsp.jpg rod67ss Jan 25th, 08, 05:36 PM That brings back some memories! The previous owner went to a lot of trouble doing that same set up on my '67. It worked fine until the first time he put the power top down. When I got the car 1 speaker was missing and the other was in the bottom of the well. The grills were still covering the holes though. Guess yours are shallower. Thanks for sharing. captcanuck68 Jan 25th, 08, 06:27 PM Hi I am new here, I have a 67 IPC. Does anybody know exactly were to mount the rear speakers in the vert.? The audio place where I had the security system put in suggested to me that rather than going with rear speakers, put in a sub that was amped...and it doesn't matter whether the top's up or down.. with the kicker speakers going, it ain't bad for first gen sound. Ended up with 6" bazzoka, that really blends quite well with the rest of the system. So, here's an alternative route that you might consider. cap68 |
