I have always thought that when a car was an RS/SS the car had the RS features but sported the SS badging. But I was surfing the internet and came across this picture from Super Chevy. The picture looks to have been taken during that period. So was this correct or is the picture/car altered? The people, especially the driver looked drawn in.

I'm not following...the picture shows the SS badging "overriding" RS badging (no RS badging visible). As it should be. Only thing "wrong" with the photo is the wheel covers, but I have seen them on other GM photos of the 1st gens.

That picture is from the 1968 Dealer Brochure. You can never go by these since the cars are pre-production and a lot of the details are air brushed in later.
You're correct. Production cars had "Camaro" above the fender line and "SS" below for all SS cars, even Rally Sport equipped. If it wasn't an SS (just an RS), then the Rally Sport emblem was placed above the fender line with nothing below.

Oh, I missed the tiny 'rallysport" on fender (comes up real grainy)....
