I see Rick's is advertising a new repro crank that has correct depth splines etc. They list one part for the front and one part for the back. Did the originals use 2 different types?

I just cleaned and polished the ones from my Firebird last night. There is two different part numbers but after measuring them I can't find any difference in the four handles.

There has been some posting here before of two different cranks for front and back in 69, but I have no idea what the difference is I have some of the "291" and "800" castings, and they appear identical in length and curvature. I don't think I have any of the "838" rear handles to check what the difference is.

I am thinking that the rear one requires more clearance. The El Cheapos I have hit the chrome trim on the rear panels.

What I did way way back when, and because the rear windows wern't used much, was to use the vent window cranks from a big GM car. they are only about half as long, matched the front, and I thought they looked good.:D
