I just did this actually. I have an automatic tranny, so the console is a bit different, but for the most part it is the same procedure. You unscrew the flat plastic piece that rests on the console and surrounds the shifter. The switches are not actually in this piece, but you need to get underneath them to unplug them. Once the panel is off, use an uncomfortable body position, lots of swears and a twisted hand to get under the swithes. You will feel where they plug in, and you will need to work at them for a bit to dislodge the little plastic tabs that hold the plug to the switch. To make it a bit easier, pry the switches out a bit from the top side and you can slide a thin screwdriver in to disengage those tabs. Don't worry about ruining the old switches either if you have new ones, heh. When you get those undone, the swithes just slide out through the top. Again, you may have to pry at them. Next, put the new switches into the console from the top until they snap nicely into place. You will then need to use that same awkward technique to hook the connectors up again from underneath and make certain they snap on tightly. Be prepared to learn a few new words, but with a bit of skill you can pull it off in about 10 minutes. Replace the plastic panel and you are done.

Hope this helps, and you may wish to check any light bulbs while you are in there too, just to save you some time later on.
