Hi there, new to the site and was hoping I could find out what would be the correct plug lead date / markings for my LA built 69 Z/28. Trim tag reads 11A (Nov '68, 1st week) Would they be the 3q68 marking? And if so which company offers the best quality leads these days, if there are more than one to choose from? Also, does the 'q' refer to quarters of the year? Thanks! Rick

Rick,
Yes the "Q" stands for quarter Since you have a Nov. assembly date my guess is 4 Q 68 would be "correct". If I'm wrong someone please correct me.

You might give Rick's First Generation a try for your purchase.

Oh by the way, welcome to TC!!

Appears by your screen name we both have Huggger orange, Van Nuys Z's.

3Q68 is the one you need.. They usually only sell 1Q and 3Q to fit everyone into two categories. I got two sets of wires from Rick's that arced all over the place. Called the manufacturer and they finally sent me a decent replacement set. Seems they had problems with 'too much carbon' in their rubber boots! Whatever.

My LA built 69 big block car was built in Sept of 68, still has the original plug wires on it and they are 3Q68. My guess is that yours would be the same.

Thanks guys, and also thanks for the welcome Doug. You are correct as to me having a LA built Z28, and yes to the color too. I have a feeling we have talked before in the past. Maybe regarding something off ePain.
Regarding the leads, I see that Classic offers only the 1q & 3q leads in the '08 catalogue, so it had me wondering if they were taking the easy way out, or if in fact, that is all that GM had produced for the model year back in the day. Basically two runs a year from Packard Wire. I will have to lean toward the 3q68 ones, unless there are any other folks that can offer any other data. Are Lectric Limited the only current lead manufacturer, or is anyione else producing them? It was also mentioned that an arcing problem occured, which company were these through, if it is OK to mention them here? Thanks again for the info!

Lectric limited replaced my wires. They disclosed that there was a problem in the past.

GM identified them for all four quarters, but Lectric Limited (the only manufacturer) only makes them for 1Q and 3Q - that puts either set within 3 months of any car's build date.

Handle them carefully during installation - yanking on them or kinking them will probably result in failure.

:beers:

Memories! You guys reminded me of my original wires. Yep,,,,,,,, ready,,,,,,,, here it is;
:mad::mad::mad::(:(:(
Sorry, they were horrible. I found out how bad they were after I learned of the 'open hood in the dark' trick. I had no idea that you could see high tension juice travel down the wires to ground.
I bought a Garretty Dynotune Kit. It came with Packard 440 wires. Those lasted more than a year! Then they invented silicone. But the only color available was from Accel. :sad:again.
