The 68 is getting major body work and I want to move it around under its on power. Most of the wiring connectors are disconnected. The engine harness is hooked up but the other harness (lights) arent. The battery is hooked up, the purple wire is on the starter, the wire that goes to the HEI is on. If the purple wire is hooked up to the ignition switch should the engine crank or does the ignition switch need to be hot (reds hooked to it).

Yeah, you need power at the ignition switch. You either need to reconnect everything between the ignition switch/fusebox/hornrelay/battery, or skip all of the factory wiring and do a temporary harness with two switches, one for the HEI, one for the starter.
