I'm currently looking at all the complete disc brake kits on the market i.e. classic performance parts, performance on line etc. i am wondering have any of you guys used these vendors and if so:

1. what was your thoughts on assembly
2. performance
3.

there are many different options to choose from i.e. front kits, back, front/rear, zero offset. i have also looked into baer and wilwood brand (no pricing) and these do seem to be the more popular choice; but i would imagine that these are higher priced!

this will be for a daily/weekend application with about 400hp. i will also be putting 17" on the front and 18" back. with adding disc will this push the tire out any further?

while doing this i have decided to replace upper/lower (tubular) control arms, spindles, tie rods, ball joints, bushings/boots etc. along with the hotchkis tvs system. after receiving great advice from everyone; this sound like i should go ahead and replace "this" while I'm replacing "this" etc.:)

thank you,
Brian

i have never used the companys you mention. I have only used right stuff and their kit was great. I have also heard many others say the same thing.

Brian -

I should have told you, but when you hear the snowball coming, you should at least try to get out of the way... :)

I looked at this post, and there are so many questions in here, it would take a book to answer. these questions get asked here a lot, so I tried to look for some basic ones that will answer a lot of questions at once. Here's a pretty good one:

For some quick answers...

For a street car (not one that will see any road course time where brake fade is a real factor), the OE 69 and up style power front disc brakes are a simple, relatively inexpensive (around $700 or so with all new lines and new front to rear line and hose for the OE rear drums) upgrade, and are all most folks will ever really NEED. But, the small diameter rotors and rear drums lack a bling factor when viewed through larger diameter, spoke type wheels. An OE style front disc brake setup moves the wheel monting surface out about 1/4 inch or so, not really a big deal. As Craig mentioned, Right Stuff Detailing has some nice stuff for OE style brake setups, and has great customer service and support. http://www.rightstuffdetailing.com/

There are any number of 4 wheel disc kits out there. A search here for "baer" and "wilwood" will get a lot of info, as well as some on some of the other alternatives. But again, unless you've got an unlimited budget, plan to spend time on a road course, or just want the Pro Touring look, you are probably better off spending the money elsewhere.

There's nothing wrong with the OE lower control arms, but there are benefits to be had with aftermarket upper control arms and ball joints like the ones by SC&C. The thread I linked above has some input from Mark at SC&C, and you would be well served to search for all posts by him and read up. Mark posts some very straightforward, easy to read and understand thoughtful discussion on 1st gen suspensions, and isn't a guy to just shill his product.

Go over to the sponsors on the right hand side and look up GP Superstore. Frank and Lisa have a Wilwood GP going on and may be other brake "kits" there too ?

But here's a link...http://www.gpsuperstore.com/forum/showthread.php?t=251

One other thing to consider is that if your car originally came with manual front drum brakes, make sure you get the correct front brake lines when doing the conversion.

Eric,

thank you for the comments and links provided. all of this information has been more than helpful and more understanding when you guys dissect the steps and provide, positive/negative effects each change may present. the sc&c write up was remarkable and very helpful. thanks for taking the time to research these topics and give me some direction.

since reading all the post you provided i have scaled back on what i was going to invest/change. now this will allow me to put my money saved into other areas.:thumbsup:this is why I'm a novice and you guys are the "pros"!!

thanks again,
Brian
