I am considering purchasing a set of stainless steel headers from Ricks.

I am concerned that they will turn yellow like p*** after a few months.

Anyone see a set of their headers installed and how did they fit and look.

Who manufactures them for Ricks, maybe i could buy them from my local speed shop

thanks

Ricks sells Stainless works.

They make them polished and unpolished, but i'm not sure what grade stainless they use.

I installed the polished versions on a car, they looked great!

.....And then they turned blue/black shortly after the first test drive.

We are Stainless Works Distributors. We can save you some $$$$ on Stainless Works. I may have what you need in stock? As for turning colors, that is mostly a funtion of your tuning as rich and lean conditions can change the color.

If you need a set, let us know.

Most I have seen have changed colors and I personally don't care for that look. I go with a good set of coated headers.

I am trying to stay away from coated look, car is all original but i hate to loose power to manifolds, my opinion is that headers were a common modification when these car were new, so why shouldnt i install a set. Except that coated headers were not available in 1969 and i am trying to keep modifications to period correct appearing.

If it were a hot rodded camaro i wouldnt think twice and install coated headers.

I've got a pretty original Z28. I run coated headers. If you want to go original, get some rusty ones. That's what they all looked like back in the day. The high temp header paint lasted about 2 months.

I can understand that but SS wasn't that common in 69. maybe consider Jet-Hot coated in Black that might look better.

VHT makes an aluminum coat that works great. and doesn't flake or burn off.

black ceramic coat or steel colored ceramic coat looks great as well.

the polished ceramic dulls after a while, but still stays cleaner than what the stainless looks after it discolors.

Good luck

I was under impression black hot coated would rust like paint just slower and ceramic coating was the only long life coating.
