The left caliper's outside pad will not clear the rotor sufficiently to install it on a new Moser 12 bolt. Right asembly fits perfectly.

I have:
1. ground the center hole of the rotor so that it sits flat on the axle flange.
2. installed rotor and caliper bracket so they are tight.
3. made sure the caliper is completely open.
4. made sure the outer pad seats properly.
5. switched outer pads.
6. switched rotors.
7. switched caliper mounting brackets.
8. switched calipers and then pads.
9. rotors run pretty true.

With the above the right always is correct and the left will not go on so I think have eliminated the brake parts and that leaves the axle. I measured the distance between the inside of the rotor and the outside of the caliper bracket. The problem left side space is approx. 1/16" wider than the right. So it appears the mounting flange on the axle tube mounted 1/16" too far inward.

What is the easiest way to correct this? Axle is already powder coated so I don't want to move the flange on the tube. Will I have to have a machine shop mill the bracket down?

Any suggestions?????

Thanks,

Solved my problem with BFH (rubber) and made a "Tennessee adjustment" to the caliper bracket!

Danny - if you are doing a c4/'93-'97 rear brake swap onto your Chevy rearend, the caliper should be shimmed on the bracket for proper alignment. Just bolting it up will leave you with the problem you describe.

I hope using a hammer left the caliper aligned with the rotor or you'll loose braking power as well as go through pads from improper wear...

It's amazing what a handful of washers will do to align this!!

I worried more about my "pdqCBB" setup's pads rubbing on the inner rotor hats centers vs not aligning properly.

Big single piston calipers and 13" 'Vette rotors on the front and 11.75" rotors and 1980 Cad Seville e-brake calipers on the rear..

Suckers all lined up fine!!

Yeah, that is what the washers are for.

Dennis,

Not using the C4 but MSB conversion kit. Before I whacked it I did check the spacing and found the lower side to be properly spaced and the upper side to be too tight. When I whacked the upper side it gave me the same spacing as the lower side and the pad is now parallel to the rotor. Looks like the axle tube flange was a little out of square.

Thanks,

What's an MSB Conversion kit? I searched the forums for a reference without any results...

Sorry about that! I got my abbreviations mixed up. It is an MBM conversion kit that several vendors sell.

Washers. My Wilwood kit came with a selection of different thickness washers and instructions on using them to center the calipers over the rotors

The MBM kit came with 3 or 4 different thickness spacers that you put between the caliper bracket and the flange on the axle. Adding a spacer moves the caliper inward. I needed the caliper moved outward a bit so the spacers were of no help.
