Hello,

Does anyone have any reference pics on how the spring in the headlight bucket attaches?

I pulled mine apart several months ago, and cannot remember the orientation.

Again, I am trying to put the small bucket that the headlight sets in back into the larger bracket.

Keith, I dont have pics of that close up but Im sure the AIM has a cutaway showing where all the parts go. If you dont have it, you need it. Assembly Instruction Manual. Available at most resto parts places and ebay.

Is this what your looking for.. The spring doesn't attach to the small bucket. It attaches to the retaining ring of the headlamp

The AIM doesn't show the detail of how the bucket itself is assembled.

The other end of the spring attaches to the stainless ring? Man, I don't remember that. Any pics of the actual assembly would be great. Anyone have any on their resto pages?

I slide the ring onto the spring and then slide the ring over the lamp and then bolt the ring in place. The spring is only used to apply pressure on the 2 adj screws.
If your headlamp does not line up with the writing on the lamp nice and straight from the front, you have the 2 inner bucket turned around. There is a difference between the 2. The inner buckets have 3 indentations in them that the lamp fits in.

Not sure why you can't see them. Must be something turned on in your computer. Sometimes you can right click on the red X and click on show pic.

The half-circle cutout in the bucket should be at the top, as pictured. I install them differently than described. I pull the spring w/ a needle-nose vice-grips into the slot in the stainless ring as the last step.

thanks madmax for the pics, i never knew the spring attaches to the headlight retaining ring, i always thought it attached to the bucket. thanks.

maybe it's "supposed" to mount to the trim ring, but I'm almost positive that's not the way I did mine. I think there are a couple of tabs on the bucket for the spring, but I'd have to take the bezels off and look at it to be certain.

If you do it the way the pics show, you would have to remove the spring to replace a burned headlight. If the spring attaches to the bucket, you just have to take the 3 screws out of the trim. (and of course, you need to remove the bezel in either case)
