Hello folks, I'm a newbie here. Got a question to start with. I have a 99 Camaro, V6, that I purchased new. Recently, my fuel guage started giving me all sorts of readings. It will register full when I fill up every week but as I use fuel, the guage doesn't start to drop until well after 100 miles. Then it is very eratic, bouncing from empty to full, not a fast movement, but a very inaccurate one, (as my wife found out when she ran out of fuel:sad:) Unfortunatly, I had forgotten to tell her that I reset the trip meter every week when I fill up so that I can keep track of how much fuel I have remaining and when you hit 400 miles she needed to be looking for a gas station. Well, let's just say that after I had to leave the fishing trip that I was on to go get her, she now knows to watch the trip meter. But I would love to get this thing repaired. I'm a Facilities Engineer and do most all repair work to my home and vehicles, but this one has me stumped. Anyone else ever had this type of issue? Thanks for any help!!

it's probably the float sticking on the sending unit in the gas tank.

It isn't the float sticking, it is the resistance value changing erraticly because of deposits left from the fuel you are using. GM sells an additive to put in the tank with your fuel that cleans the strips of deposits 88861802 is the GM number. We have used it at my dealership and it seems to work well. It is well worth the money to try is because to put a sender in that on the ground would be a nightmare. Cost is about $12.00 so give that a try with a few tanks of fuel and see if it changes. If it does then get another container of it and run some every 4-5 fill up. Most of the time cheap gas causes this too.
