I have an intake gasket that came with my overhaul gasket kit and I'm not happy with the extra gasket material showing after I put the intake on. I want my engine to look nice for a restoration and I was wondering if there was a gasket available that fit better.
thanks

My b/b square port gaskets have about a 1"x1" extension from one of the ports. Don't know why it's there. If yours is like that, I don't know why you couldn't trim the excess.

For the record, for b/b with aluminum intake at least, and probably s/b with aluminum intake, the factory installed a plastic paint shield over the valve covers and intake before painting, so the area around the intake was left cast iron bare. I've never paid close attention to that area of any high dollar restorations to see how that was handled, but now that I know about it, I'll check it out.

I painted that area on mine along with the rest of the block, but I could always go back and re-do it. After all, I've redone practically eveything else!! :)

Thanks for your response, after I read the part # you gave me I called the local chevy dealership parts department and they said the # I gave them was no longer good and it has been changed to another #. I would list the other # but it is at work. They did not stock the part or have a pic of it so I would have to order (buy) it first just to look at it.
Maybe I should just try to trim the excess like unreal mentioned. It has metal in it, die grinder with a deburring tool?

Thanks for letting me know I was not crazy. I have a SB, that I just installed the blue Felpro gasket and afterward was confused why I had so much blue gasket showing from the stock manifold. It is too late for me to cut it. But I will remember that next time, if there is a next time.

Was it #10147994 ?
The older number was still available until just recently, some may be still around.
The newer number is nearly the same, for all HP engines (fits stock just fine too) from 1967~86, but it does have the raised area for the EGR passages - I just trin that area out for the original look ...
Should cost @$12 a set - if they know you ...

Thanks That number is the same one they gave me, so I took your advice and trimmed mine with a bench grinder and it worked fine.
thanks again.
