View Full Version : Repairs around rear window?

Man this is tedious work. My car had a vinyl top and consequently, rust. I am cutting out and replacing(migging) portions of window channel and sheet metal around the roof/sail area.
My questions are:
1)What do I need to fill the gap where the roof and sail come together, you know the factory seam? Had to remove filler to repair area. Would Metal-to-Metal work or body filler be OK?

2)What should I skim the repaired areas with, body filler or maybe some Evercoat Metal-to-Metal.

3)I am going to use PPG DPLF-90 epoxy primer in these areas. Are you guys comfortable putting body filler OVER epoxy primer?
I know "they" say you can do it, I would think the body filler would adhere better to a rough sanded surface.

Any suggestions on this would be appreciated.
I've been spending a lot of time cutting out the bad and welding in th new. It sure is a slow process, but its coming along.
Thanks,
Guy

Body filler over the factory seam should be fine in my opinion. I have been using filler over DP primer at work since it came out. Wirebrush and clean the welds as best you can before priming.

I have seen body filler bubble after a while when applied over the lead. Now i spray epoxy prime over the lead seams, then when its cured i DA it with 80 without breaking through and apply the filler over the epoxy.I'm using the epoxy as a barrier between the lead and the mud.Seems to work so far.
