I'm sorry if this is a stupid question because I don't know a whole lot about the 69 Camaro. :o
Did any of the BB cars come with chrome valve covers and aluminum intake manifolds? If so could someone post a pic or tell me what the orange overspray should look like on the intake manifold?
I'm trying to find this info for a 69 427 Corvette that I'm restoring but I'm having a hard time finding this info....even on the NCRS tech board of which I am a regular.
Any help or advice here would really be appreciated as I'm sort of stuck between a rock and a hard place with this dilema right now.
Thanks,
Greg

I read over on the yenko.net board that the engines with chrome valve covers and aluminum intakes were painted using a plastic mask that covered the valve covers and aluminum intake so the intake, the intake side of the heads, and the valve covers didn't oversprayed. You might check over there.

I think when you find the info it will say the edges of the intake and base of the distributor should have overspray. Maybe John Z will see this and you'll get the answer.

Here's the discussion at yenko.net

The "in the know" guys seem to be JohnZ and William. There are pictures of survivors too.

How about discussing it right here? I had both, new. There was no overspray on either.

Thanks a lot guys. That fills in quite a few of the gaps and those pics especially of the early take off LS6 valve covers were a real eye opener.
Does anyone have any more pics of original overspray patterns like that that they would be willing to share? I'd be particularily interested in shots of intake manifold overspray if that's possible.:D
Does anyone have or know where I could find a pic of the paint process that would show this elusive mask??? I'm thinking that there many have been more than one type or maybe they had an opening between the intake and valve covers. I don't know how to explain why some got painted between the intake and valve covers while others didn't.
Thanks again guys!:beers:

On a SHP bb with chrome rocker covers and an aluminum intake there should be no orange overspray on the sides and very little on the ends.
I worked at Camaro Parts Exchange for 15 years and sold dozens of bb aluminum intakes. None of them had anywhere near the amount of orange paint on them seen on supposedly restored cars today.
I have the April 1968 issue of Popular Hot Rodding. There is an excellent color engine bay photo of Kelly Chadwicks' L78 1968 Camaro SS NHRA SS/C car. All the factory hose clamps, fuel lines and intake bolts are in place indicating not much had been done at this point. There is absolutely NO orange paint along the sides of the intake. There is a very small amount visible on the leading edge. The lower bypass hose clamp has some orange on it, not the upper.

That's intersting William and I'd like to see that.
Would you be able to post a good pic of that for me? I've been wondering if this area received paint or not so I'd find it quite interesting to see exactly what this area looked like.

I'd say you chances of getting sued for posting a 40 year old pic are about the same as winning the lottery ..or getting hit by lightning.
