Who makes/sells the best replacement convt. top? Could it be installed by a non pro with some skills? Is there any place that sells parts for the frame (ie, frame rails ,bushings, etc). thanks.

Some of the bushings can be made from a bronze guide from a small block chev cylinder head. The guides are the correct 3/8"ID/1/2"OD for many of the pivot bushings. Bolts and other hardware is hard to come by (ebay). I have bought top kits from my local supplier, I think they are Key auto top, others like Robbins brand. What rail parts are you looking for? If you do the top replacement yourself be sure to measure the distance of the rear bow to pinchweld moulding before you remove it. Digital pixs help on reassembly. I would also replace the top pads and tension cables, when doing the top.

I like the Robbins top...they have a good rep. I helped a pro put mine on, and was sure glad that he was there to measure.. I would have cut it too short. If you can get someone who has had some experience it would be better , believe me. There has been mention replacing pads, etc. and I would add to that, that if the plastic lines are brittle at all due to age, scrap them and get new.

If the measurement is off the distance between the listing pocket and the seam above the rear window, the top will either be too tight or to loose.
I would also compare the new top to the old one(compare the distance from listing pocket and rear top seam above the window).
