I would like to freshin up my front inner fenderwells. Beieve it or not my friend did it years ago with good prep and krylon black spray enamel. It was pretty darn nice. It's time for another round. I was thinking of using an airbrush this time for a better job and to get into tight areas. The rest of the car is finished. Will this work or should I borrow a paint gun from a body shop? Thanks.Brian.

Using an airbrush would be like using a fine tip pin or sharpie marker at best. Cheap spray guns can be found that will serve the purpose. Harbor Freight has usable spray guns for around $10-$20

Air brushes aren't made for the type of paint you'd use to paint your inner fenders. The material is way too thick. Airbrush paints are typically water based and very thin (almost ink thin). I'm sure you can get larger nozzles, but I agree with Geezer. Even a good touchup gun would be better than an airbrush.

I am glad i asked. Great idea guys. Am I better with this throw away gun or will a real gun have more of an adjustment. Big thank you. Brian

The whole of my engine, engine bay, firewall is all done with an air brush and using spraying enamel....and have done so for the last 30 yrs
Althu this paint is not designed for a air brush, filter thru the wifes nylons (take her out of them 1st)
Dilute about 50/50 universal spraying thinners.
Usually 2 or 3 coats well tacked off between does the job

I dont use accelerator so it takes several days to harden..loose the tacky...this gives heaps of time for the paint to flow out smooth

I dont bother with undercoat...enamel sticks to anything...degreaser, sand out any paint chips , orange peel etc..doesnt have to be perfect
Give a good coat
Any orange peel, paint chips etc that show, spot sand these areas smooth hen 1st coats have hardened....then spray finsh coats.
Any slight over spray on other colours, wipe with a damp rag and thinners...no need to be to fussy, a fine artst brush to finish edge detailing/over spray...because of no acclerator there will be no brush marks as the paint flows

Any time u scratch, chip the paint a quick wipe with degreaser, quick sand smooth, touch up with artst brush or air brush, paint flows out and cant be seen, even if in the middle of an inner gaurd.

Been dong for 30 yrs tried other stuff but always come back to spraying enamel and air brush.

Buy a nice Jamb gun that is gravity fed and this will dial down to a half inch wide if need be.Just keep it clean and it will last for years.

Got a jamb gun...but a lot of messing around with masking and over spray, espec if doing things like inlet manifold/brake booster same as car body colours...air brush very little over spray and pencil edges
Jamb gun good if engine etc is not in the car.

I am resigned to the fact that i am going to need to mask off everything. What is the difference of a jamb gun? I would like the fenderwells to look as good as the outside. Shiny black does not forgive. Brian.

Masking..all I do is throw a sheet over the cowl and gaurds using an air brush

Shiny black does not forgive
Yeah thats what I have...see my post above for blocking.

Well either ya’ll have a lot more patience than me or your air brushes have a much larger pattern than mine. I have an old Binks but a ½ inch pattern is the most mine will spray and works best at ¼ inch and under..

Jam gun will work the best. An air brush will produce over spray also. It might not be as noticeable but it is still spraying/atomizing paint.

I borrowed a small professional adjustable spray paint gun from a friend. I diddn't know he had it. Now we can spray real enamel paint verses krylon or rustoleum again.
